presided. The devotional period

also gave meditation. A piano solo
was played by Miss Barbara Mac-
Kay. The roil Ballwas answered
by naming a beatitude. Misses
Jannett !1tobie and Margaret Haines
played a piano duet. The study
hook was taken by 1%Iiss Mary
Houston. tMrs. Marguerite Chopin
read the narrative. The minutes
of the previous meeting were read
by the secretary, Mrs. Alvin Leath-
erand, and the treasurer's report
was given by Mrs. Fred Ross.
Plans were made for the Ptesby-
terial to be held here in Septem-
ber. The next meeting will be
held at the, home of Mrs. Moss.
Closing prayer was by Miss Daer.

Auburn Horticultural flower
show will be held at the Orange
Hall on Thursday, August 22, from
2.30 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Silver
collection. Tea served. Every-

4-H Curb Meets. — The fourth
meeting of the Auburn Annettes
Garden Club was held Friday even,
ing at the home of the assistant
leader, Mrs. Donald Haines, with
nine members present. The secre-
tary, Shirley Daer, read the m:Pi-
utes. The roll was answered by
displaying two vegetables. Mrs.
Ed. Davies gave the home assign-
ment that of preparing raw vege-
tables for salads and serving at
home to their families. The mem-
bers of the skit for Achievement
Day are ,Misses Lorraine and Nor-
ma Hensch, Margaret and Carolyn
Clark. .The last meeting is to be
held August 19th at the home 7f
the leader, Mrs. Ed. Davies, when
a coin roast will be held. Mrs.
Haines, and her daughter Margaret
served lunch.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ling and
Marilyn, of Guelph, visited last
week with her father, Ralph
Munro.
Mrs. 'Gordon R. Taylor and
daughter, Mrs. Ronald Rathwell,
visited in Toronto last Thursda3;.'
Mr. and Mrs. Cliff MacDonald,
George and Peter, returned from
a week's holiday in Northern On-
tario.
Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Pentland,
of North Bay, and Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Arthur visited in Niagaz a

returned last week from a trip to
Western Canada.
Master Billy Mallen had the
misfortune to fall and break his
leg.
Mr. and Mrs: Harry Eve, Mr. and
Mrs. Marshall and Tommy, of Lea-
side, visited last week with Mrs.
Herbert Govier.
Mrs. Kathaleen McDonald, Mr.
and Mrs. Alex Scott, of Toronto,
spent last week -end with Mr. and
Mrs. Donald Fowler and Mr. and
Mrs. Roy Finnigan.
Mr. Albert Campbell and, his
daughter, Mrs. Stanley Abel, of
St. Thomas, entertained in honor
of Penny Abel's 4th birthday last
Thursday. The little guests, all

Anne who has spent the last two
weeks, with her parfaits, returned
home with them.

Harold Asquith., of Toronto; Mr.
and Mrs. Nelson Robison, of Black-
foot, Alberta, spent a few days with
Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Robison. They
are enroute to visit their daughter,
Elsie, and her family at Stellarton,
Nova Scotia; Dr. and Mrs. A. L.
Findlay and family, of Peter-
borough, with Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
T. Robison.
Sympathy is extended to Gordon
Wall, who was bereaved by the
death of hie mother.
Strawberry, --Mr. George

Brian, Marion and Janice Wall,
of Holyrood, were recent guests
with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Arthur

Mr. and Mrs. John Payne have
purchased the Hallam home froze

Miss 'Elma Muteh is holidaying
at Toronto and Ottawa. Mrs. Gor-
don Miller is clerking at Munro's
store during Miss Mutch's absence.

We are sorry to report that Mrs.
James St. i%l arie, . of 'Kitchener,
formerly of this community, is a'
patient of St. Mary's Hospital, Kit-
chener. We wish her a very
speedy recovery.
Sister St. Cornelius (nee Mary
Foran) visited her mother, Mrs.
Mary Foran, and brothers for a
few days recently. She was ac-
companied by Sister Mary ,Willialns,
(nee Grace Mair) who visited her
uncle and aunt, Ambrose and Mary
Ada Brophy. Sister Cornelius, of
London, goes this week to Edmon-
ton where she will tae a plane
to Yellowknife to join the teaching
staff at the St. Joseph's school
there. We wish Sister a very suc-
cessful journey that takes her so
far away from her family and
friends.

PORTER'S HILL
PORTER'S HILL, Aug. 12. The
W.A. of Grace Church held their
August meeting at the summer
cottage of Miss Dorothy Cox and
Mrs. Cox. The president, Mrs.
Lockhart, had charge of the meet-
ing. Mrs. Donald Harris led in
prayer. Scripture was read by
Mrs. Austift Harris. The secre-
tary's and 'treasurer's reports were
read and adopted. The roll call
was answel•ed by 18 .ladies. The
president thanked the ladies for
their work in making the Wedding
su,pper.last week-sucb..-..a,-sucoess-,•-
also for the parsonage board sup-
per held in Bayfield. It was de-
cided to look into the matter of
rejtairing the wall of the church.
Mrs. Allen Bettles was to get in
touch with the trustees of the
church on this mattep. 1t was de-
cided to quilt a large quilt at the
September meeting. Mrs. Elgin
Cox had charge of the program
which ccusisted of a contest and
reading.
The Bible School held in the
school the last two weeks under
Supervision of Rev. Mr. Martin
and—his teaching staff, ended with
a program last Friday evening.
There were 96 children who at-
tended.
There was no service at Grace
Church last Sunday on account of
the Bayfield anniversary but ser-
vice will be at 9.45 as usual this
Sunday morning.

cently returned from a motor trip
to Florida, spent a few days last

Frayne, and family. Susan Liese-
man, of Marton, was also a visitor,
and Danny Frayne returned with
them for a week's visit with the
Kraemer family at Hesson.
Miss Bernadette Meyer spent the
past two weeks holidaying with
relatives in Torcnto and Kitchener.

returned to her home after a
week's visit here.
