W.I. Hold Picnic. -The W.I. held
their July meeting in the form of
a picnic when they entertained the
ehildren of the district. Mrs.
George Minim opened the open
air meeting held on the Auburn
Athletic Field. Mrs. Bert Craig
gave the reports. A letter' was
read from Miss Helen MeKercher
announcing a new Home Economist
fOr Huron County. Miss Shirley
Pattersea will succeed Miss Bullock
who will have charge of Bruce
County. Games and races were

Rev. Douglas Black. -The ordin-
ation and induction service for
Douglas *Black was held at Knox
Presbyterian Church, Port Dover,
in the Presbytery of Hamilton. Mr.
Black was student minister at Knox
Presbyterian Church, Auburn,
about five years ago. Mr, Black
is mareied and has two children,
Jimmy and Karol. His many
friends in this district wish him
every success in his new ehurch.
Mr. and Mrs. George Russel, of
London, were recent visitors with
Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Davies.
Powell-Haggitt.-A pretty wed-
ding was solemnized at Knox Unit-
ed Church manse, on July 27, when
Rev. R. S. Hiltz officiated at the
marriage of Donna Irene, elder
daughter of Mr. William Haggitt,
and the late Mrs. Haggitt, and
Robert Gondol Powell, son of Mr.
Robert Powell, of Douglas Lake,
B.C., and Mrs. Emma Powell, of
Goderich. The bride, who was
given in marriage by her father,
looked lovely in a white strapless
gown of nylon net over taffeta, a
large bouffant frilled underskirt of
nylon net in .ballerina length and
wore a matching jacket of net over
taffeta with blue pleated
taffeta trim ending with
large bow at back. She carried
a cascade bouquet of pink rosebuds
and a matching rose bandeau on
her head. She was attended by
her bridesmaid, Miss Marlene
Maize, of Dungannon. The grooms-
man was his brother-, Donald
Powell, of Goderich. A reception
followed at the Club Grill, Code -
rich, where the bride's aunt, Mrs.
George Baxter, of Goderich„ re-
ceived the guests. For a trip to
Northern Ontario the bride worea
gown of black brocaded taffeta with
pink hat and accessories to match.
On their return they will reside
in Auburn.
,Friends of Miss Donis Haggitt
gathered at her home last Friday
-evening. Mrs. Keith Machan pre-
sided for the program. Those tak-
ing part were Mrs. Thomas Hag -
gat, Miss Shirley Turner,- Mrs.
Gordon Miller. A contest by Mrs.
Machan was won by Miss Kathleen
Craig. The prize for the lucky
chair was won by Miss Ruth Daer.
Mrs. Gordon Chamney read an ad-
dress of good wishes to t1 bride
and the numerous gifts were car-
ried in by Mrs. Gordon McDougall,
Mrs. Harold Maize and Mrs. Keith
Meehan, Miss Haggitt thanked her
friends for the lovely gifts.
Mrs. Ronald Rathwell and son
Michael, of Dresden, are visiting
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gorden

Mrs. Alan Billings is a patient
in Clinton hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. William Seers and
Gail enjoyed a. trip to Owen Sound

Friends of Mr. David Hamilton
will be sorry to learn that he suf-
fered a broken hip last Thursday
and is a patient in Clinton hospital.

Straughan Reunion. - Deiteaala-
ants of the late George Strauelairi
gathered recently at Seaforth Lions
Park for their 63rd annual picnic
with a large attendance. The hon-
ored lady was Mrs. William
Straughan, who is in her 101st
year. She is the only surviving
member of the original family of
nineachildren, being the wife of
the youngest son, Games and races

William H. Caropboll.-Auhurn's
only centenarian passed away early
last Weenesday morning, July 24,
in Clinton hospital. William H.
Campbell was b-orn at trooklyn,
Ontario, on October 19, 1&56, and
was the son of the late Mr. and
Mrs, HirarnCampbell. When he
was 14 years of age be and his
parents moved to the 13th of Hal-
lett. Six years later they moved
to East Wawanosh on the farm now
occupied by his grandson, Kenneth
Campbell. On October 23, 1879, he
was married to Miss Fannie Harri-
son in West Wawanosh who pre-
deceased .him many years ago. He
was a member of the Donnybrook
United Church where he was an
honorary member af the Session
Board, and a Bible Class teacher
for, over 50 years. He is- survived
,by one daughter, Mrs. Lurenia
Crozier, of Lcinelon, and two sons,
Albert, of Auburn, and Colin, of
Ottawa; also 11 grandchildren and
20 great-grandchildren. The fun
eral .services were conducted by
Rev. R. S. Hiltz at the J. K. Arthur
funeral home on Friday, July 26, at
2 p.m. with interment in Dungan-
non cemetery. Pallbearers were
Messrs. Clifford Crozier, Kenneth
Campbell, Colin Crozier, Arthur
Speigelberg, j3rian Speigelberg and
Barkley Speigelberg.
Church Picnic. -Knox Presbyter-
ian Church and St. Andrew's Pres-
byterian Church, Blyth, held their
picnic at Harbor Park, Goderich,
last Wednesday, July 24, with a
large attendance. Contests and
games were enjoyed by the child-
ren. Race results' were: boys, 6-8,
Eddie Haines, Brian Fear and
Douglas Vincent; girls, 6-6, Marj-
orie Youngblut, Margaret Sander-
son and Marian Youpgblut; boyS,
9-12, --Donald Machan, Donald
Adams; girLs, 9-12, Sharon Stewart,
Shirley Machan, Margaret Haines;
teenagers, Bill Dobie, Alvin Daer,

Bible *School came to a successful.

work and gave reviews of their
lespons. The service was held in

The pupils marched into the
church with Keith Scott End Jen-
nifer Grange drawing a covered
wagon with Shelley Grange the
little pioneer sitting inside the
wagon. The subject theme of the
school was "Pioneering with
Christ" and this was carried out.

The pupils chosen to tell their
daily studies were: Mary Sander-
son, John MaeKay, Marjorie Young-
blut, John Bennett, Margaret Sand-
erson, Judith Arthur, Nancy Ander-
son, Billy Rob:aison, Gail Miller
and Billy Lapp. Miss Margo
Grapge was the accompanist The
Junior Class in charge of Mrs. Ed.
Davies and Mr. John Aquilan pre-
pared to go on an imaginary jour-
ney and showed the equipment
they would take using Bible quota-
tions. They were Marilyn Daer,
Betty Youngblut, Joan Weir, Marg-
aret Haines, Sharon Stewart, Bar-
bara MacKay, Jannett Dobie, Linde
Andtews, Janet Young, Barbara
Baechler, Eileen Schneider and
Carol Brown who were chosen for
this trip. Mrs. Duncan MacKay was
the accompanist. The Seniors, in
change of Rev. R. S. Hiltz, also
demonstrated the& achievements
with Miss Margaret Clark accom-
paning their songs. Marie Leather -
land, Bob Ostrom, Kenneth Hunk-
ing and Clare Vincent took part
in this class. Rev. D. J. Lane spoke
on tlye achievements of the school
and thanked everyone for making
it such a success. Certificates were
given out to over 120 children for
'faithful attendance and memory
Work. After the offering was re-
ceived by Messrs. William Straugh-
in and William Hensch, the bene
diction was pronounced by Padre
Garrett.
Meyers -NIC I lveen. - Livingston
United Church, Hamilton, was the
scene of a pretty wedding on July
20, when Olive Irene Meyers,
daughter at Mr. and Mrs. George
N. Meyers, Hamiltce, became th
bride of J. Eric Mellveen, youngest
son of Mrs. F. 0. Mellvee.n and the
_late Mr. Mellveen, of Oshawa, form-
erly of Auburn. Rev. H. A. Bagnall
officiated. and Mr. Thomas Sisman,
ACCM, was organist. The soloist
was Miss -Lois Breher, of Hamilton.
The bride, who was given in mar-
riage by her father, wore a waltz -
length gown of white brocaded
satin, fingertip veil and wore a
sequinned headdress and carried
a bouquet of cream tea roses. She
was attended lay Miss Sylvia Meyers
as her sister's maid of honor. The
groom was attended by his brother,
Dr. Charles E_ MeIlveen, of Oshawa.
Ushers were Jack R. Roughley, of
Bowman/vine and Russel J. Fraser,
of Hamilton. The reception took
place at The Great Hall Alumni
Building, McMaster University,
Hamilton. After the wedding trip
to Northern Ontario, the eouple
will reside at 600 Brant street,
Woodstock, Ontario.

social evening was held in . the
basement of DonnYbrOok Chureh

on Friday when meinhers of the
congregaticu and friends eathered
to honor Mr. and Mrs. James moldy
(nee Margaret Jefferson). A short
program and contests were enjoy-
ed. Before the lunch hour Mrs
Stuart Chamney read an address
to Margaret and on behalf of those
assembled, Mrs. Chas. Robinson
arid Mrs. Norman Thompson pre-
sented her with an Ottawa Valley
blanket and a step end table
Margaret expressed her appreci-
ation. Lunch was served at the
close.
On Saturday evening, Miss Marg-
aret Messer, of Goderich, a bride-
to-be, was guest of honor at a
miscellaneous shower at the home
of Mrs. Chas. Jefferson. Besides
6th line friends, guests were pre-
sent from St. Helms and Wing -
ham. Mrs. Chas. Robinson read
the presentation address and after
unwrapping her gifts assisted by
her aunt, Miss Josephine McAl-
lister, Margaret expressed her ap-
preciation. A lovely lunch was
erved ,by the hostess.
