Perth County Junior Farmers

annual Perth -Huron field day com-
petitions at Mitchell Saturday
afternoon -and- evening.
Perth's athletes piled up. a sub-
stantial 59-29 lead on the points
system in the athletic events which
included races, ball games, and a
tug-of-war.
Huron Wins
The Huron teams took the tug-
of-war and the boy's softball cham-
pionship.
hainpionship. In the girl's softball
finals Perth came through with a
victory.
The field day, an annual event
between •the two .counties, wound
up in the evening with a square
dance competition with Listowel
and Mitchell troupes, both of Perth,
finishing first and second.
Following the competitions the
two opposing cam,-ps joined forces
for a purely .non-competitive social
and sociable dance in Mitchell's
Crystal Palace.
Field Day winners now advance
into provincial finals. -

Mrs. 'Charlie McCabe and Mrs. A.
Straughan also gave reports. Plans
were then nide for a bus trip.
This was followed by two piano
selections by Douglas Fisher, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fisher, who
won the Institute scholarship at
the Music Festival.
The meeting closed with the
singing of the Queen, after which
a social half hour was held.

Mrs. E. D. McIlwain presided for
the June meeting of St. George's
Churchwoman's Guild in the ab-
sence, through illness, of Mrs. B.
M. Munday. The Scripture was
read by Mrs. H. Dodd and the re-
port of the choir vestments by
Mrs. D. Patterson who brought a
number of cut out "surplices which
were distributed to the members
for making up.
Mrs. H. Ticlaborne, representing
the Cancer Society, gave an ac-
count of a meeting held. Miss Judy
Patterson favored with two pialio
solos. (Mrs. A. Shore expressed
the thanks of the meeting for the
solos.
Hostesses were Mrs. F. Riley,
Mrs. A. Shore, Mrs. -H. Carroll
and Mrs. C.. Tweedie.

BOY, THREE, IS FATALLY
INJURED BY SPREADER
Three-year-old Peter Wilier, died
at 'Collingwood General and Marine
Hospital on Tuesday of last week
four hours after he was caught
up . and fatally injured in , his
father's mechanized Ifertilizer
spreader.
His mother is the former Mary
Bisset, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Gordon Bisset, of Saltford.
The youngster was standing near
the spreader when -his -father start-
ed up the farm tractor, not realiz-
ing the sireader was in gear at
the time. The sympathy of the
community is extended in the un-
fortunate accident.
