A. Stewart, of Toronto, a CPR engineer and officer of the Brother- hood of Locometive Firemen and Engineman agreed in cross-exam- ination that the Canadian Pacific had experienced more trouble with firemen sleeping on duty after Diesel locomotives were put into service. Mr. Stewart declared that fire- men were "definitely of assistance" as lookouts on yard Diesels and told of incidents in which he con- tended the warning of a fireman had possibly prevented accidents. However, he agreed in cross-exam- ination that ground crews,- if ob- serving railway operating regula- tions, would have insured safe operation. - Miss Elizabeth O'Keefe and Miss Katherine Kenny, of Detroit, are visiting Mr. Frank Dalton and other relatives in the district.
