Holmes indicat- , however, that he did not regard the .itttatIO i such a serious ROA, He 'commented, "You're thregving old mow, Mr. Donnelly." The quesU nn arose during the hearing of e. larges resulting from two April Fools' Day pranks that backfired. Thomas Arthur Clark, 21, of Goderich, had pleaded guilty earlier. He was sentenced to two weeks in jail for phoning a false fire alarm in to the local telephone exchange in the early.d hours of April 1. On a second charge of imperson- ating a police officer, he was fined $20 and cats or two more weeks in jail. He was ordered to pay five dollars into court to defray expenses incurred when an ambul- ance was called out as a result of his hoax. Twu other youths, Rock Cote and Joseph Chapman, were each fined $20 and costs or two weeks in jail in connection with ringing in the false alarm. '['hey had pleaded not guilty. Si- n In Group Clark, Cute and Chapman had been driving around in a car with Leonard Kerr, G<rrd. Kerr and Douglas Kerr on the date the of- fences occurred. On the witness stand, Leonard Kerr, 16, of Dungannon, said that Clark phoned Mr. Lodge to say that an ambulance was needed at the hospital. The youth represented 41004010110011000 "Out She Goes!" When Goderich housewives start spring housecleanung in the attic, cellar or wherever they stere unused furniture, they're to keep an eye open. The idea is to spot saleable household furnishings for which they no longer have need. When they come upon these items they are to phone e iv ;2r one of the following Goderich numbers: 810; 14; 150W. Tell the person at the' other end of the line you have something which you wish to donate to the Lions Club auc- tion sale on May 18. Proceeds from this big auc- tion sale are to go towards supplying fur rishings for the nursery of the new wing at Alexandra Hospital. By doing this you can help a worthy cause. At the same time, you will make more room around your house by getting rid of articles you only think you need but which yt,u will prob- ably never use. - ?HE GOP RI H SIGN A L-8' TIX X SYJ1l7:'71, 18th p .E1 irrrnself as Constable South on the phone- After the call had been made, the six youths waited in their car on the Square until the ambulance went by on ds way to answer the fake call. Apparently, the operator suspected something fishy and con- tacted police instead of calling out firemen. Mr. Donnelly asked Chief Hall why all six youths weren't charged. The magistrate agreed with this particular cbsert, at:on. but he pointed out that it was not the fir -t time that this had happened. The magistrate said that during his 18 years as crc'wn attorney, it happened not infrequently that a man who helped the police escaped with a Lighter cbarge or was not charged at all.
