Everyone Welcome -12 Harb • the assistant. First president of Harbouraires was Len Drake, who was stationed at Clinton with the RCAF. Please note that Drake was not a navy man even though he had a famous British navy name. Right now, George Parsons is the president. First vice-president is Bob Irwin, of the RCAF Clinton. Harold Bettger is the secretary and Bruce Clifford looks after the fin- anees (needs more for those jackets right now). The Harbouraires are merribers tke._4ntario.brauch of the Ama1,. gamated Choruses of America. Their fame has grown not only ,by their presentations at garden parties, church -anniversaries, school commencements, etc., but also because of the series of broad- casts they have done over CKNX- TV. And Bruce St. George, who generalled their performances on TV, will 'be master of ceremonies when the singers take to the stage of- the Goderich Collegiate Audi- torium on Monday evening. They're a grand group of 35 singers, (ten of them from the Clinton area) and you'll not :be disappointed in their ,program. Take the whole family and be there early -dor a good seat. (Continued from page 1) include ex -navy men. - When the fall of x947 rolled around George had rounded up "twelve good men and true" -all from Goderich, and their chorus of voices were soon drifting out over the blue waters of Lake .Huron several venings every week. Before they knew it, the grow of singers -were in popular demand at various concerts, etc. By the -spng--o- they were ---feeling a little lonely SQ they brought in a group of ladies to add a dash of something new to the presenta- tions. Later on, they ditched the ladies and became an .all male or- ganization. It was then they de- cided on their name. Since they practised at Sky Harbor, they de- cided to call themselves "The Harbouraires." From then on they climb -ed the stairs of success. One proof of this is the fact that they have been invited to take part in a big sing in the Kitchener Auditorium on May 18 'in which there will be 1,000 voices -all leading singers ;•from various parts of Ontario. Five Originals Today, there are only five of the original Harbouraires who can stand up in the group and be counted. They are George Buch- anan, Harold Bettger, Fred Sturdy, Bill Ross and Jack Frith. Over the past ten years the Harbouraires have graduated 125 men. That number has joined, sang with the group and then moved on to other Locations in Canada. All join as raw recruits but graduate as ac- complished singers. First pianist of the Harbouraires was Joe Kelly, who at one time played for the famed army show, "The Dumvbells." Later pianists were Alex Clark, Miss Eleanor Lauder and Don Ewing. Now it's Ed. Stiles with John Maloney as e REWARD for information leading to the -person who shot and fatally injured our Great' Dane dog.
