Thb letter, approved at a regular meeting of the Jeyeees, was ad- dressed to EEirneet E. Eason, secre- t d)t HEPC of Ontario, Toronto. The club's 'action was triggered by the news that the Irrovineial commission had approved a, rate reduction of 25 gents per kilowatt per year for Goderich. The redue- tion was described' as "picayune" at a Public Utilities Commission meeting. As a result of the out, Goderich PUC will pay Ontario Hydro $48.50 per kilowatt per year, instead- of $48.75. Seaforth Much. Lower In its official protest, the Junior Chamber of Commerce stated: "We feel that the hydro rate for. Gode- rich is too high and would recom- mend that serious consideration be given to provide a 'substantial re- duction. "Comparison shows that the rate for Seaforth is $37.65. On a mile- age (basis, this would indicate that the Goderich consumer is paying a transmission rate that is unjustly high. "We would, recommend to the IEC that serious consideration be given to placing all the munici- palities 'being served by the same hydro substation, such as Seaforth, on an equitafble and similar kw rate. Inasmuch as the IfEPC is a publicly owned •utility, we feel rates should be on an~equal basis for at least various zones, if not -on a provincial basis. In compari- son we refer you to the standard rates for postage, income tax, un- employment insurance benefits and family allowance. "It would appear that the annual surplus of the past, few years of the Goderich PUC indicates that the commission is ' being capably operated. We note further com- parison with the proposed. 'redue- tion for Mitchell of $1.75 per kw year. It is not our intention to oppose reductions 'offered to other municipalities, boat rather to ask for a snore equitable and suitable reduction tor the consumers of Goderich. "The efforts of a number of organizations of the Town of Gode- rich, particularly the Town Coun- cil, Industrial Commission and the Goderich Junior 'Chamber of Com- merce are directed towards further Industrialization of the community and area. In this respect, `high' cost of hydro is definitely not a selling point. "if, as we have been led to be- lieve in the past, the more hydro you use the cheaper the rate, we are at a loss to understand the Goderich rate of $48.81 and a monthly consumption of 16,206 thousand kvvh.
