It's a tool kit, cmplete with everything necessary to keep that electronically operated establishment known as a home in good running order. e understands our age. Young women with domestic Geience or home economies training have no place in it. What they really need is engineering and more than a smattering of ure scw4ce. A an no longer understands a kitchen. That's why so many have taken to operating charcoal grills in the back yard. Take the modern kitchen stove. It rivals an atomic pile as a mystery. Its control panel would scare the pilot of a B-52. Modern meals resemble old-fashioned meals only in the fact that you still have to eat them yourself. To prepare a meal you pull packages from a freezer, set them in the oven, push and pull dials and buttons and walk away. A bell announces when dinner is ready. The dishwasher does the dishes, the disposal unit cleans up the garbage. Button -controlled devices wash, dry and iron laundry, open the garage doors, heat and cool the house, give a television check on the nursery. Pure chaos faces the home in the hands of an unscientific woman. Fuses, transistors, voltage regulators or electric eyes that go on the fritz can bring domestic life to a standstill. The modern housewife, armed with tools, Geiger counters and a firm understanding of atomic energy is the only one who can cope with it. She needn't know how to cook. sew or change diapers. But if she doesn't know how to keep her electronically operated dream house running she's a total loss as a wife and,. mother. 10: • A man had posted himself in front of an office build.ng with a tray of shoelace. One executive made it a daily nabit to give the unfortunate a dime, but he never took the laces. One day the ped- dler, on receiving the (Erne, tap- ped his departing benefactor on the back: "I don't like to complain, sir, but the laces are now 15c."
