— NEWS OF AUBURN
UBURN, Aug. 28.—The Auburn
Horticultural Flower Show, held
in the Orange Hall last Theirsxday,
was a grand success in spite o the
inclement weather. Over 25 ex-
hibitors brought in their choice.st
blooms and all who attended en-
joyed their ;beauty and variety.
Tea and cookies were served to all
and a social time enjoyed. The
judges were John Cuthbertson,
Goderich and Mrs.. W. Harrison,
Detroit, �erly 'of Goderieh.,<The
gladioli wore placed on the plat-
form 'in baskets on pedestals
against a, background of a large
golden shoe, which enhanced their
beauty. The Signal -Star photo-
grapher was present and took sev-
eral pictures of the displays. The
living -room and dining -room ars-
rangements were especially attrac-
tive as were also the cacti and
noveltycollection. In the novelty
section an old-fashioned soup
ladle, filled with small flowers and
foliage took first prize. Here also
was a hand -crochet swan holding
a container with roses and sweet
peas. Mrs. Robert J. Phillips won
the most points for her exhibits,
with a total of 27.- Mrs. Herbert
'Mogridge, Mrs. George Million,
'`Miss Margaret Jackson and Mrs.
Gordon R. Taylor tied for second
place. There was a display of the
various kinds of roses, beautiful
corsages, magnificent dahlias along
/with varieties of marigolds, zinnias,
sweet peas, pansies and asters.

ing of the Auburn Women's Insti-
tute was held last Tuesday in the

Mrs. Wellington Good, in charge.
Mrs. Alfred Nesbitt, as leader of the
Girl's 4-11 Club work reviewed the
441 Club work which the Institute
Sas sponsored for the last 30 years.

three girls went to Achievement
Day at Clinton and then t1 Home
Ecpngmist, Miss Flora Durnin took
them to the Perth County Achieve-
ment Day. She drew a contrast
to the 300 or 400 who attend
Achievement Day now in this
County. Mrs. Millian gave the
motto Readings were given by
Mrs. IIerb Gooier. The minutes of
the July meeting were read by the
secretary, Mrs. Bert Craig, and the -
financial report given and thank -
you notes read. Mrs. Gordon R.
Taylor sang a solo. Readings were
b$' Mrs. Albert Campbell. The
topic for the day was taken by
the convener of Home Economics,
who described the 'Supper Club
menus and gave a detailed account
of the girl's record books. Miss
Lorraine Hensch gave her comment
on the club display, "Various ways
of serving fruit." Hostesses were
Mrs. Albert Campbell, Mrs. Gordon
Taylor, Mrs. Her Gooier and Mrs.
Herb Mogridge.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bryant and
Shirley and Donald, of -Smith Falls,
visited _recently with Mr. and Mrs.
William Straughan.
Messrs. Douglas and Howard
Graham, of Detroit, visited last
week with Weir aunt, Mrs. John
Graham.

Bridge Open. — The overhead
bridge over the C:l� R. tracks be-
tween Auburn and ^i lytta is again
open to traffic, having been closed
for three weeks while -it was being
replanked and repaired.

Thamesville -on Tuesday to visit
her sister-in-law, Mrs. 'William
Mayhew and Mr. May -hew. She
was accompanied by her sister-in-
law, Mrs. Charles- Williams, of
Clinton.

impressive sermon on baptism last

Clark, Carlow, and Murray Rath -
well, of Port Elgin. A. qu-artette

Mary and Margaret Clark sang a
medley of hymns.
Services will be a`•ondueted nest
(Kathleen), and three companion
nuns of St. Joseph's order, London,
at the new mission headquarters
at Haney, British Columbia, re-
cently.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Redfern
and l>avid, of Detroit, are holiday-
ing with the Frayne family, and
motored to -the Martyrs' Shrine
at Midland over the week -end, ac-
companied by Dr. and Mrs. G.

Pilgrimage of over 10,000 people,
many in their native costumes

honor of our Lady. Outdoor Solemn

Methodist Church, the bride was
attended by her sister, Mrs. James
