riot guilty to iudeFent assault, was
find $100 and costs, or three
weeks in jail, on the lesser ensu t.
of T common assault. The eharge
against Ern V. Magee, 20,of
Clinton r11CC tation, was reduced
by Magistrate .D. E. Hoboes at the
conclusion of the: ease There last
.week.
Magee had been arrested after

year -hold married woman from Clin-
ton. at the .beach here ark June 11.
The woman told police that Mtigee
struck her, cutting her lip, when
she objected to Ills intentions.
Noting evidence as to the com-
plainant's own character; Magis-
trate Holmes said he did not be-
lieve that she ,had really resisted
the accused. He did .believe that
Magee had "a vieious temper" and
had struck the woman.
In a surprise move near the
end of the trial, Crown Attorney
H. Glenn Hays introduced three
young Goderich women who had
seen Magee in action at a party
here earlier this year. Magee had
struck two of them when they did
not please him, according to their
testimony.
James Donnelly, ` of Goderich,
conducted the airman's defence in
the trial.
Edward Baxter Letts, of Ailsa
Craig, . pleaded guilty to careless
driving and was fined $10 and
costs. Crown Attorney Hays ex-
plained
xplained that Letts had apparently
dozed off, while '• driving, and struck
a parked car on highway 21., north
of Kintail. No one :vas injured
in the accident, which occurred in
the early morning of August 9.
