cently at his home in Sherbrooke,

Obituary
R. F. NICI-HOLSON
Robert Frederick Nicholson, 40,
an executive of Thompson Pro-
ducts Ltd., St. Catharines, and
prominent Anglican layman, died
suddenly Saturday night at St.
Catharines. Fellow employees
found him slumped over the wheel
of his car in the plant parking lot
a few minutes after he had been
seen leaving the plant.
A life-long resident of St. Cath-
arines, he was a son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Nicholson.
He had been en employee of
Thompson Products Ltd. for 14
years and served as president of
the Old Guards Association for the
past two years.
The late Mr. Nicholson was a
member of Grace Anglican Church
and well known for his extensive
church a,otivities. He was rector's
warden during ,1954-55, member of
the Select Vestry of Grace Church,
a licensed diocesan lay reader, a
former_ Sunday _ Sochaol , _teaches;,
member of tee race Church chap -
tier of the Brotherhood of Anglican

lay delegates to the diocesan synod.
He was also a menlbe•r of Grace
Lawn Bowling Club. •
He is 'survived .by his widow,
Gladys Shore Nicholson, formerly
of Goderich, a son, Arthur, and a.
daughter, Dianne, both at home.
A brother, William Hose, of St.,
Catharines, also survives.
Funeral service was held at 1:
pm. Tuesday at Grace Anglican
Church, St. Catharines. The body
was .then conveyed to Goderich
where there was a committal ser-
vice at the graveside in Maitland
cemetery on Wednesday at 2.30
pm., with Rev. K. E. Taylor officiat-
ing. Burial arrrafigenve•nts were in
change of Lodge funeral home.

Grain Doors Burn
It isbelieved that aspark from
a : ing freight may have caused
a e which did considerable dam-
age to pile of grain doom along

Water was hauled from, Slit Har-
bor to fight the blaze. A CPR
engine was sent out to assist fire-
men, and railway personnel kept
an all-night vigil in ease the is
threatened to break out again.
Fire Chief 3. J. Hotgarth said
that the grain doors may have
been ignited by a spark from a
freight train whieh passed a couple
of hours before the ralarn► was
given. Several of the grain doors
were completely destroyed.

The 17th annual Lawson and
Clark reunion was held in Harbor
Park Sunday afternoon with an
attendance of over 100.
Relatives were present from
Clinton, Mitchell, Stratford, Bay-
field, Belgrave, Listowel, Langton,
Ti1lsonburg, Brampton, Toa -onto
and Pickering.
Prizes were: oldest lady, Mrs.
Tom Lawson; 'oldest gentleman,
Edgar Lawson; youngest baby, Joan
Miller; person coming the farthest,
Mr. and Mrs. Tony- Lawson, of
Stratford. -
Retiring officers were: president,
Jos. Thompson; secs-etaTy, Mrs. Jos.
Thompson. New officers for 1957
are: president, Jack Medd, of Kin -
burn; secretary, Mrs. Lorne Law-
son, of Kinburn.

gannon United Church on Saturday
at 2 pen. The ceremony was con-
ducted by Rev. G. Watt.
The bride wore a „floor -length,
strapless gown with skirt of nylon
net over white bridal satin, ,the.
Yboclice of chantilly lace extending
into scallops on the skirt. The
matching lace jacket had a Peter
Pan collar and long • lily -point
sleeves. The collar and the scallops
on the skirt were outlined with
irridescent sequins and her finger-
tip veil of embroidered net was
caught to a coronet of .pearls and
sequins. She carried a heart -shap-
ed .bouquet•of pink roses.
The groom's sister, Lois Cun-
ningham, of Goderich, was brides -
I maid. She•wore a ballerina -length
' dress of blue lace and net with lace
shrug jacket, matching mittens and
headdress. She carried a bouquet
of yellow roses.
The best man was Bob Rising, of
•Goderich.
For the reception at Tiger Dun-
lop 'Inn, the bride's mother wore
a dress of dove grey taffeta with
pink and navy accessories. She
wore a corsage of pink roses. The
groom's mother wore a White flow-
ered nylon dress with matching
accessories and .a corsage of pink
roses.
For the wedding trip to the Unit-
ed States, the bride wore a grey
suit with pink accessories, and dor-
same of pink roses. The couple
will reside in London.
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Marshall
and family, of Durham, visited
their daughter, Mrs. Keith Hopkin-
son, Mr. Hopkinson and family, at
the week -end. Mrs. Marshall re-
mained for a longer visit.
Visitors at the home of Mr. and
,Mrs. H. Lednor, Poa-t - Albert, this
past week -end were: F/Lt. and Mrs.
W. E. Balkwill, Anne and Lynne,
of Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. L, A.
Brentwood, Sandra and Lucille,
Hamilton; Mrs. J. Atthill, Evelyn

be stationed with the R.C.A.F.
Mr. H. Led.nor has returned to his
home at Port Albert, after a six
months' stay at the Goderich hos-
pital.

Taxpayers in Goderich
Township will pay a general
mill.. _crate of 10 mils this
year, an , increase o' two 'over
last year.
According to R. E. 'Thomp-
son, township clerk, the in-
crease is mainly due to a
$4,300 grant towards the ad-
dition to the Alexandra Mar-
ine and General Hospital.
The school rate in Goderich
Township varies with each of
its 10 schools from a low of
five mills to a high of 14.1
mills.
At the regular monthly ses-
sion Monday night, Council
took out a councillor's acci-
dent insurance policy.
LEGION GOLF
Members of the Canadian Legion
for a widespread portion of West-
ern Ontario are .holding a golf
tournament this week -end at the
Maitland Golf Club.

That 15 -ton boulder, which was
removed from its dangerous rest-
ing place in the channel leading
into Goderich harbor, now lies on
the bottom at the north end of
Ship Island. It should not inter-
fere with shipping there; but, just
in case, it is marked with a red
spar .buoy.
