Mr. Chas. Austerberry leaves on
Monday for England where he will
visit relatives at Yorkshire, as well
as a brother in Aberdeen, Scot-
land.
Mr. and Mrs, Hugh Glen, ac-
companied by Mrs. Glen's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Crawford, of
Port Albert, spent the week -end
at Belle River with Dr,aand lt�lrs.
R. W. Cunningham and son, John.
They also visited relatives at Wind-
sor and on Saturday were guests
at the Henstock-Gould wedding
which took place ata the Covenant
Baptist Church, Detroit.
Mrs. Florence Thomson, who has
been visiting the past two weeks
with her son, Dr. W. K. Thomson,
Mrs... Thomson and children, in
Kingston, arrived home Saturday
accompanied by DT. Thomson and
his son, Bob. She also visited in
Toronto with her daughter, Mrs.
Howard Pollock, Mr. Pollock and
children.
Miss Ann Webb, nurse -in -train-
ing at St. Joseph's Hospital, Lon-
don, spent a few days with Miss
Jeneane Young.
Mr. and Mrs. Percy Proctor, of
Detroit, are again at Deer Park
Lodge, Bayfield, for the summer
months.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Turner,
of Stratford, were in town on
Tuesday to attend the opening of
the new Court Hoose.

Ontario ladies' softball champ-
ions last year, Goderich Dodgers
served notice in ,their opening
game at Agrieultural Park 'iaye
Monday night that they will be
a tough team to beat in the coming
season. They handed Florence
Chicks an 8-4 'defeat in the first
gaorae of, the Big Feardie& -Fas
,ball League.
Headed by the Goderich Girls'
Trumpet Band and the Goderich
Pipe Band, a cavalcade of cars left
MeGee's Garage ' and paraded
around the Square to the Park
where official opening ceremonies
took place. Addresses were made
by: Mayor J. E. 1-Iuckins; Reg Mc-
Gee; Gar Landers, of Stratford,
president of the Fastball League.
The trophy won by the ,Dodgers
last year was officially presented
to them by Andy Davidson, of
Stratford, rejcisenting the OASA.
Goderich opened the scoring in
the second innings by scoring two
runs. In the third innings Audrey
McCabe hit a three run homer.
This feat _was duplicated in the
ninth innings by Norma Tinline
of the Florence Chicks.
Pitching for the Dodgers, Kay
McKinnon struck out 12. Patching.
dor Florence Chicks, Gloria Aitche-
son was relieved in the fifth inning
by Pat Belliveau.
Only newcomer on the Dodgers
line-up this year is Donna Hopi
from Sebringville, who played
centre field.
Kay Sharp, who pulled a muscle
in her left foot, will be missing
from left' -field when the Dodgers
play in Stratford Friday night.

R. C. Riehl, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Albert Riehl, of Saitford Heights,
was among 45 students who gradu-
ated from the Western Ontario
Agricultural School at Ridgetown
last week. Graduates were intro-
duced by Professor J. S. Seckley,
director of the school, to Dr. C.
D. Graham, deputy minister of
agriculture, who presented the
two-year course diplomas.

bara Dianne" will be raffled off
the last night of the Trade Fair.

KNOX LADIES' AID
The May meeting of Knox
Church Ladies' Aid Society was
held last Friday in the church
parlor with the president, Mrs. J.
A. Straiton, in charge.
The Scripture lesson was read
by Mrs. Geo. Stokes and Mrs. John
Long offered prayer. It was de-
cided to display the aprons and
children's clothes in a store win-
dow before the June bazaar.
A quilt top donated by Mrs.
Smith was displayed and will be
quilted soon. Mrs. J. S. Kernighan
gave a humerous reading.

A former resident of Dungannon,
Charles Elliott, 88, died at his
hoarse in Lucknow on Friday. 'Fol-
lowing a services. in Johnstone's
funeral home in Lucknow Monday,
the remains were brought to Gode-
rich for interment in Maitland
cemetery. A Masonic service was
=ducted at the graveside by
members of Morning Star Lodge,
of Carlow.
Many residents of Dungannon
can recall when Mr. Elliott operat-
ed the first cha,i-n-drive car ever
seen in that district.
Besides his wife, the former
Clara Ratz, he is survived by a
son, Henry; -one sister, Mrs. David
McIlwain, of Goderich; two bro-
thers, William and Everett, both
residing in Northern Ontario.
There is one ,grandchild.
