Starting the new Court House clock, Mayor Huckins, of Goderich, said: "It is a pleasure, on behalf of the town, to present this re- markable timepiece to Huron Coun- ty for the benefit of all the citirzens in the county." The old Court House clock, by which several generations of town and district residents have set their own timepieces, had been sadly missed since the fire in February of 1954, the mayor note. Other committee members, in- troduced by Mr. Taylor, were Earl Campbell, former sleeve of Hay Township, who was warden in 1955; William J. Dale, former Reeve of Hullett Township, who was warden in 1954; Cecil Blake, Reeve of Ashfield Township; Daniel Beuerman, Reeve of McKillop Township; Williaill - McKenzie, Reeve of Exeter, who was chair- man of the committee in 1954 and again in 1955; Harold : Gowdy, Reeve of° Howick Township, and Chester McWhinney, Deputy -Reeve of Exeter. Warden Fischer, who is Reeve of Turnberry Township, is also a member of the committee. R. E. Pooley, Mayor of Exeter, was then' introduced in his capacity as representative of Canadian Legion branches in Huron County. A memorial chapel inside the new Court House is being furnished by the Legion but will not be officially dedicated until a later date. There was a span of almost a century in the ages of some of the spectators at the memorable ,cere- monies. There were a few old timers who first saw the light of day within a few years of the open- ing of the first Huron County Court House in 1856. And., there were the representatives of , the coming generation, the "little duf- fers" being wheeled around Court House park by their mothers, totally unaware of having witness - of wounds in the various conflicts. Their names will be inscribed in a memorial book and placed on a table in the. chapel of the Court House. Delegates to the district annual were appointed: Mrs. E. Hunter, Mars. S. Snyder, Mrs. Buchanan and Mrs. 4. Straughan. The June meeting will be an evening meeting on June 26 with Mrs. Harper, of Goderich, guest speaker. Mrs. Snyder conducted two contests which were much enjoyed.
