Beautify Homes And Increase Value
By Planting, Garden Expert Advises
As a diamond enhances the
beauty of a ring, so glowers, shrubs
and trees enhance the beauty o.f
a home, and increase its value.
This was the theme on a talk
which John Clark, of Toronto, de-

Goderich Horticuitural Society in
MacKay Hall last week.

But if a dear old friend, all alone
in the world, happens to kick the
bucket while ,staying with you for
the weekend, she's not only hors
de combat but a horse of a dif-
ferent color. and you can't spade
her into the fancily plot. Don't
seem right.

And just to complicate the whole
I thing, there's another regulation.
' It says you can't bury anyone with-
in the limits of the corporation,
except in the cemetery. So, if
said old friend is left on • your

This last-mentioned regulation ,
is going to make a lot of us change
our plans. I have a lot of trouble
with my cellar, I also have a lot
of trouble with. the Old Lady. I t
had a half -formed idea that 1,

Anyone disturbing the "quiet and
good order" or "acting in an im-
proper manner" may be kicked out
and fined. .Anyone alive, that is.
Anyone found in the cemetery

trespassing. This too, apparently,
applies only to visitors„, not in-
habitants.

was introduced by C. Epps, of
Clinton.
Man is essentially a gardener,
said Mr Clark. He quoted pas-
sages of Scripture to show that
"One is nearer God's heart in a
garden than anywhere else on
earth."
He appealed to members of the
society to interest ttlhildren in

Magistrate Fry, of Dundas, had
remarked that the year the horti-
cultural society was organized in
his town, juvenile delinquency al-
most disappeared.
In Kitchener, Mr. Clark said,
colorful sidewalk spots had been
planted with dowers by a citizen
living close to two schools. These
flowers were of great interest to
the children, who admired them
but never molested them in any
way.
Mr. Clark pointed out that the

All in all, it looks as though
the cemetery is going to be a

It says that plot owners and
their families may have free access
to the cemetery between sunrise
and sunset. Does this mean every-
body else pays? I don't own a
