Few of these persons have inf orined the Sig i• ai-Star of such letters. Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Watson, R.R. 3, Clinton, however, have very y kindlypassed on to the Signal -Star one of the aforementioned letters. It is from Mrs. E. Moynes, a another of one of the young players on the York „Township team, and reads, in part, as follows: "Just a ew lines to let you know how much my husband and I ap- preciate the hospitality you chew- ed Riley (their son) the three nights he stayed with you. We certainly feel it was very generous of you to take the six boys in and to treat themso well. "Riley enjoyed the chance to see your farm as that doesn't hap- pen too often to a boy brought up in the city. So, all in all, his visit to Goderich was one he won't forget for a long time, I am sure. 'We got up to see York Town - chip team play en one day. We were really impressed to see .just how much people like YOU and, Gbderieh3 as a whole, n do every War "'tee mike it possible for so many bays to come' and compete in their favorite sport, We didn't know very much "about your town before but this wholehearted effort you put forth has given us a spec- ial feeling for Goderieh and Pm sure all other parents of visiting boys feel as we do." OBITUARY MRS. M 1PNIE SPR1NGATE Mrs. Minnie Springate died in DesMoines, Iowa, on April 13. Born in Ashfield Township in 1880, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kilpatrick. ' Surviving are one son, Charles, of Des Moines, three 'grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Eliza Petrie, Goderich, and MTs. Medley who came here as minister of the Baptist Church about ten years ago. He married Vera Chase and they have a .daugh- ter, Elizabeth. He has been in the employ of Gardner 'Motors since leaving collegiate and has taken a like position in Stratford. 0 0 0 Community Club of Safford Meets The Saltford Community Club met at the home of Anne Mont- gomery on Thursday afteroon last with 24 members and six children - present. Dorris Hamilton presided for the business session. It was decided to donalt'e $50 to Jthe current Cancer drive. Mabel McLean fav- ored with a rea•dtng, "The Home - .maker." A draw was made for a handmade quilt on which tickets were sold. Anne Linklater was the winner. Second prize, a pair of embroidered pillow slips don- ated by Mrs. Jewell, was won by Mrs. Robt. Dodkin, Sarnia. A gift was presented to Mrs. Zouthout who is leaving the club and moving to Fergus. A Dutch auction was held on a gift donated by Mary Williams and was won by Helen Fulford. A door prize, the gift of our hostess, was won by Annie Lamb. It was announced that the next meeting will be at the home_..of. Major,1!estivai Adjudicator Here Mr. Ken LeMaire, of London, first president of the Goderieh Little Theatre, will officially oPen the ninth manual drama festival here evhieh starts Wednesday even- ing, April 25, and' continues foal, three evenings, concluding on April 27. Entries in this year's festival are frons St. Thomas, Sarnia, Lon- don, Chatham, Blyth, Goderich, Galt and. Exeter. Mr. Leon. Major, of Toronto, an outstanding young Canadian direc- tor, will be the adjudicator. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Sarin Major, operators of the Major Stores in Goderich. A. gnaduate in English at the University of Toronto, Leon Major also graduated from the Royal Consef-vatory of Music, ,where he studied music and piano. The was also a student of ballet and music- al comedy. Mr. Major took a three year course in theatre direc- tion under Robert "Gill of Carnegie Institute. He has had several years experience in professional summer stuck as well in Toronto. ' Some of his major successes in directing have been with the fol- lowing productions:. Waiting for Lefty;- A Street Car Named Desire; My Three Angles; The Fifth Sea- son; Brigadoon. Dan Mclvor, 83 -year-old MP for Fort William, told the House: "SI would rather see a group of peewees play, go out and throw themselves into their game, than all the professionals in Canada." Blasting professional hockey, the veteran parliamentarian likened it to the Donnybrook Fair where "if you see a head, hit it." He com- plained that it is no longer a question of playing the game and observing the rules.
