FINED ON TWO CH.A.VAM
POLLOWWING CAB 1 ISHAPS
'' re'1 ellSal ren' 244 Gode-
rich, pleaded uilty here last week
to two charges arising out of an
accident on Britannia road on
MaDeh 18.
Magistrate D. E. Holmes fined
Squire and costs, or three
weeks in jail, for driving while his
license was suspended. On the
other charge of taking a car with-
out
ithout the owner's consent, the man
was ailed $5 and costs, or three
days in jail.
Crown Attorney r1 . Glenn Hays,
explained that the charges were
laid as the aftermath of an acci-
dent between 9 and 6 a.m. on
March 13. It appeared that Squire
had taken a car belonging to James
Fellows, with whom accused had
been attending a party that night.
The car, a 1956 model, was dam-
aged to the extent of at least $700•
when it skidded into a post.
Mr. Fellows, who lives on Ox-
ford street, Iater told police he
did not gig- accused ,permission
totake the auto. In view of the
evidence that both Squire and
Fellows had been partying, Magis-
trate Holmes indicated he did not
take a very serious view of the
charge of taking the car without
consent.

She may holda vital secret
of your future health
Here you are eye -witnessing a
method of research that has re-
cently made medical history.
'Known as "tissue culture", it is the
method by which the famous Salk
polio vaccine is produced. But this
same technique. now holds excit-
ing promise of bringing immunity
from a host ofrotjier diseases!
Meningitis, pneumonia, influenza,
Measles; chickenpox, mumps —
these are but a few of the diseases
wliicti mddlcal science is fighting
OA ' a world-wide front with this
'shining new weapon.
Like'polio, all of these ills can be
caused'by-some kind of virus.
Some viruses can now be isolated
_.and gtown in tisspe;cultures. After
being -"killed" they may then be
Inde into :sae vaccines. So the
rnuyy have in her hands the key to
a 'vaccine that will someday con-
trul a disease which now is a
pefentidl threat to you and your
loved ones. .
This project, conducted by the
Researchinstitute of the Hospital
for Sick Children in Toronto, is
supported by funds contributed by
the nation's life insurance com-
panies. It is one of many similar
projects supported wholly or in
part in this way.
The life insurance companies in
Canada are proud to be playing
some part in furthering the great
progress of medical science. It is
our hope that -these projects will
result in a healthier life for all.
