newspaper editors and,their wives who will attend the convention from all parts of Canada will include
a representation from various weekly newspapers in Huron County. Among' the Huron County papers

Thomas Clark, 19, of Goderich, was
remandedin custody one week to
await sentence .when he ..appeared
,before Magistrate D. E. Roliries in
court here last Thursday.
Crown Attorney H.' 'Glenn Hays
told the court that the youth com-
mitted the theft -in the Park
Theatre, Goderich. Bail was set
at $1,000.

any Year since Goderich Busi-
ness College` was taken over by
Mrs. Elsner Weaver about six years
ago is reported. The College opens
on Tuesday, ',September 6, and is
now 'located in smartly renovated
quarters on East street `in the
buildiing formerly occupied by
Goderich Fruit Market. More
students still are expected to en-
roll and it is likely that there will
be a record went when the
College opens `the day after Labor
Day.

An autopsy was performed at the
funeral home last Thursday afters
noon. •

Dr. N. C. Jackson, of .Goderieb,
also a coroner, said that he had
responded to a telephone call fropi
the MacDonald: home made by the
deceased woman's sister,' Mrs.
Gladys Ballewill, of Windsor. When,
he arrived, he said, Mrs. Broadley
was lying on a rug between twin
beds and was dead. Death had
occurred, a short time previously,
he said, but he could not deter-
mine how long.
Dr. Jackson` said that there was
a small amount of blood on 'the
lower part of the body but there
were no other signs of external
violence. . He saw nothing ;that
might account for the death, he
said.• "
In the house, the' doctor said,
was ' Mrs'. Balkwi'll, who told• hien
that her sister had been pregnant.
He filled with the court a report
made by Dr. F. W. Loney, chief
pathologist at St. Joseph's Hospit-
al, London. The report said that
the right side of the heart had
been filled with air. The air,, he
said had been introduced into the
system artificially by some instru
ment, and a fluid was used. The
doctor said that a sample Of the
fluid had been 'taken. Dr. Jackson
said •he had been present- at the
autopsy.
Dr. J. W. Wallace, of Goderich,
said he arrived at the house at
about 10 p.m., but did not go up•
stairs to see the body.
Mrs. Dorothy Crane, a daughter
of' . Mr MacDonald, said she saw
Mrs. B�moa4ley •. leave the MacDon-
ald ' Electric booth- at the Trade
Fair at about 8.15.
She and her father remained at
the Trade Fair, she said, until
they *ere informed of the death.
She said Mrs. Broadley hada
been' employed at the firm
for •about eight . and ° one-half

Chief Constable. , F. 11I. Han. told
the inquiry that he had. seen Mrs.
Broadley at the fair .early during
the. night in question and that she
had appeared tired. Together with
.Constable Hoviard Watson,* „said,
he arrived, at the MacDonald hom
of about 111.30,p.m. At .the,,house
he. said, he found "a. half bottle ,of
Lysol that could have been used."

Sister Testifies
Mrs. Balkwill, ` when questioned
by Crown Attorney Hays, said that
she did not know what instrument
or liquid had been used..by her
sister. "She called me upstairs....
I don't know anything about it,"
she said. She said 'she was the
only one in the house with her
sister.
She said she had driven her
sister from the fair to their fath-
• er'•s home to get a dress. At the
MacDonald home, her sister, went
upstairs saying she intended to
have a bath and change her
clothes,°Mrs. Balkwill said. About
half, an hour baler she heard her
sister call and she went upstairs
and :found the woman on the bath-
room floor. She said she forced
open the bathroom door and car-
ried. her sister to the bedroom.
She said she called Dr. 'Wallace
and -when she could not reach him
she called Dr. Jackson.
She told the inquest she felt.
that "if she (Mrs. Broadley) wanted
to do something; she wanted, to do
it while I was there so• she would
have 'someone with 'her who ',knew
of her condition" She .said • she'
had counseled her sister .previous-
ly against an abortion; attempt.
On a question from one of the
jurors, Crown Attorney Hays said
at was possible the fluid could have
been injected- at soine place 'other
than the MacDonald home. ,
At the conclusion: of the evid-
ence, • the : coroner made the ad-
journment and said that a sample
of the fluid taken -from the wo-
man's body would be sent to Tor-
onto for an analysis.
Mrs. Broadley, the former Ada
Fa•rrant, was a daughter of Henry
Farrant and the late Mrs..Farrari't,
Mill road In 1947 she married
Lorne Broadley, at present with
the Royals, Canadian ,Engineers at
Chiliwack, B.C.
• She was a iriem>ber of St.
Ge.orge's Anglican Church and
treasurer of the Goderich Ladies'
Lawn Bowling Club.. Besides her
husband and father, she is sur-
vr'''tred by two sisters, Mrs. Baikwill,
of 4 Windsor, and Mrs. David
Thompson,' of Rockcliffe.
A private funeral service was
held on Saturdiay •afternoon .at. the
Stiles funeral home, conducted by
Rev. I)r. K. E. Taylor.. Interment
was made in Maitland cemetery..

Young, told the court that he haft"
seen part of the fight, and that
:when he arrived Knight was on
the ground with Sallows and Lewis
standing over him. Knight got up
and hit Sallows • and then the two
men started to hit Knight, Young
said.
.Knight, in his own defence, said
that he hail been sitting in a car
"minding any own business." He
saw Sa•llows and Lewis. fighting
with two••..other men and during,
the melee Sallo"ws reached through
the • car window and hit him
(Knight). The accused said he
then got out of the car and Sal -
lows and Lewis "piled on me."
