AUBURN, Aug. 17. =The regular
monthly meeting of the Women's
Missionary Society was held last
Thursday ,at the home of Mrs. John
Houston with a large attendance.
Mrs. Wellington Good, the presi-
dent, opened the meeting with
prayer. The devotional period was
taken, by Mrs. Donald Haines. Mr.
Montinarell'o gave a detailed ac-
count of Queen Esther as related
in the Old• Testament. A solo,
"Where' He Leads," was sung by
Mrs. Wes -Bradnock. The study
book on India was taken 'by Miss
Ruth and Mrs. Roy Deer. A letter
of introduction fromthe Presby-
terian Church, in Scotlandwas read
concerning Miss Jannett H. Sharp.
who is visiting her uncle, John
Houston. Invitations were accept-
ed to attend both the Goderich
and Dungannon meetings in the
near future. Mr. Montinarel.lo
closed the meeting with prayer.
A dainty lunch was served by the,
hostess' and her daughters.
W.M.S.. Meets,. The Women's
Missionary Society of Knox United
Church held its meeting in the
Sunday School room of the church
last Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. John
burnin presided, with Mrs. Sidney
McCli•nrhey at the piano. The
Scripture reading was taken by
Mrs. Harold Webster. Mrs. Sidney
Mcelinchey• offered prayer and
then played a piano solo. Herald,
--Christian fellowship report was
given by Mrs. Oliver Anderson:
Africa, Christine Cunningham.
Mrs. Durnin concluded this part
with a pb;e.m. The president, 'Mrs.
Albert Campbell, then presided
for the business. It was Brough:
'o the attention of the members
that the Miss Rose fund must soon
be finished. 1t was decided to in-
vite the Londesboro. Westfield and

speaker at Auburn United Church
on Sunday at 8 p.m. He is one of
the directors of the Philadelphia

The Anglican Young ' Peop!e's
Association 'of St. Mark's Church
held a social time at Sunset Beach
last Friday evening. Miss Mary
'Clark Was convener. Swimming
was enjoyed and later a sing -song
and wiener roast around a glow-
ing campfire. Twenty-five young
people enjoyed the evening. ,

Bogie was hostess , for the July
meeting of the Leeburn W.M.S.
Mrs. William Sallows was leader of
the worship service. Mit. Joe
Freeman read the Scripture and
prayer was offered by Mrs. Tait
Clark. Much regret was felt when
Mrs. R. Swanton, of Sudbury, who
was to have been guest speaker,;
was called away that morning.
However, Mrs. T. Smith, of Troy,
holidaying at Bogie's Beach, gave,
an interesting talk on the hard-

ST. HELENS, Aug.' 17. — Miss
Mary C. Rutherford.—The death
occurred in the Wingham General
Hospital on Wednesday afternoon,
August 10, of Miss Mary C. Ruth-
etrford, life-long resident of the
St Helens district. Miss Ruther-
ford had been a patient' in the
hospital since last October when
she suffered a stroke. In her 77th
year, she was a daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. John B. Ruther-
ford. Miss Rutherford -had been
a member of the SL•._. ;Wen's.
Church. She had served as presi-
dent of the former :Harris—Mission
Band, was past president and a
life member of the W.M.S. and had
been the, efficient secret-ary�tlreas-
•urer of the church for over 40
years. The funeral service, con-
ducted by Ralph Howlett, the min-
ister of the St. Helens United
Church, was held in the McLdn-
nan-MacaKenzie Memorial Chapel,
•Lucknow, on Friday afternoon,
with interment in Greenhill eeme=•
