decorated the United Church on
Sundary for the second annual Sun-
day School Anniversary, and Flow-
er Sun—day. The :.theme of the ser-
vice was that of the World Coun-
cil of Churches held in Evanston
last year --"Christ, the Hoge of
the World." The symbol ' of that
council, a boat surmounted by the
cross, was depicted • in front of
the pulpit by a boat covered with
blue and white flowers and a
beautiful' white cross. On either
side of the platform stood a large
lighthouse with flickering lights.
A large flower -covered arch was
topped by a lighted portrait of
'Christ. Baskets and bouquets of
flowers and potted plants, ferns
and evergreens were used . effec-
tively
ffeetively throughout the church. __To

was arranged • by the Sunday
School.,_ Harvey Sperling, the
minister, was assisted in .the wor-
ship service by Lorne Woods, the
Sunday Sehool Superintendent.

ren
hildren sang. a chorus. At the even-
ing service, arranged by the Y.
U'., Anne Todd read the lesson and
Marvin McDonald led in; prayer.
Mrs. Marion Irwin, of Delaware,
again thrilled everyone with her
music on the cathedral chimes and
the n aremobaphone: Miss June
Forse, of Sisncoe, soprano soloist,
sang two selections at each ser-
vice. Alan Craig, of Sarnia,- ac-
companied Mrs. Irwin and Miss
Forse on the piano. In the morn-
ing, the choir sang the anthem,
"The Hope of the World Is Jesus"

Korea, was the guest speaker. At
the morning service he .spoke on
the theme, "Hope." Ian the even-
ing, he preached a challenging ser-
mon on the subject, "If Jesus is
the Hope of people, what must I do
with Jesus?"

HOLDS ANNUAL BALL
The "Spring Fantasy" ball spon-
sored by Beta Signa Phi sorority
was held last Friday at the Gode-
rieh Pavillon. Baskets of assorted
flowers decorated the hall and
table 'centrepieces were vases of
lilies -of -the -valley and butters ps
to set off the , decoration. Lionel
Thornton and his orehestra kept
the crowd in a dancing mood.
The first spot dame prize went
to Jack Rozell • and Mrs. Helen
Arab. The second spot dance prize
was won by Art Waters and Mrs.
Gord McManus.

to all ladies attending the 'Ball and
remaining corsages were donated
to patients of the new wing at the
Alexandrra Marine and+ General
Hospital.

Members of the Lions -sponsored
bantam and pee wee hockey teams
were guests of honor last Friday
night at the annual "Hockey Night"
banquet staged by the Goderich
Lions Club in the Bedford Hotel.
Highlight of the meeting was the
presentation of jaekets to members
of the bantam team, runners-up
for the OMHA All -Ontario Bantam
"B" title, by Mayor J. E. Huckins
on behalf of the Town.
Guest speaker was Jack Oakes,
of Strathroy, third vice-president
of the Ontario Minor Hockey As-
sociation, who praised the Lions
Olub for staging Young- Canada
Week each year. "Boys in towns
and cities all over, Ontario," he
said, "really look forward to the
big week."
Minor Hockey Growing
Mr. Oakes, who was introduced
by Nelson Hill, told the meeting
that minor hockey in the province
was on the upswing. Out of ap-
proximately 40,000 boys registered
in minor hockey in Canada, he
said, about one-half are in (intar .o.
TIiis 'is partly due to ibe large
number of arenas being built- and
also to the workbeing done by the
WOAA and other sports groups.
Ile paid tribute also to "Nip"
Whetstone, cwho last winter was
named winner of tie, OMITA. honor
award for.' -his. conkributions. to
minor hockey. "He -has a long and
enviable record in minor hockey,"
Mr. Oakes said, "and it couldn't
have happened to a nicer fellow."
At the conclusion of his address
he presented the runners-up
trophy to Dave Leeson, captain of
the bantam team.
Presents Jackets
+Mayor Hucykins, presenting
jackets to the team members, said
that- the boys had proven that with
the right type of coaching and •
management, they could go places.
