by-passed by the new road and
bridge built last year On, No. 21
Highway. .
Reeve. Objects
Decision testurn the section over
to the township was made over the
objection of Ashfield Reeve Cecil
Blake and a resolution to draft
the necessary by-law was passed by
a vote of 25 to 7 at the Thursday
afternoon :session.
Recommendation that the road
be reverted was included in the
reportsof -the Road Committee, but
Mr. Blake said he would like to
have any decision delayed until
he could "get facts and figures to
defend my. municipality."
,County Clerk -Treasurer A. H.
Erskine explained to council that
it Was, the practice for the county
to turn over such roads after the
province. had turned them over to
the county. •
Wait For Order
The by-law, however, will not be
effective until approved by an On-
tario Government order -hi -council.
Until then, the county will be re-
sponsible for upkeep of the two-
mile piece of highway. •
The roadway includes two twist-
ing hills, and a bridge which was
replaced" by the new bridge.
Mr. Blake said he felt the town-
ship should not be saddled with
having to •bear the cost of upkeep
of the section of road and the I
bridge which, he said, could con-
ceivably cost the township a good
deal of money in repairs.
