as To Turn Back With Heavy Load
There's one transport .driver
employed by an Ottawa firm
who won't be too anxious to
see the bridge at Saltford
again.
With the Maitland River as
the only major river left to
cross on his way to Ipperwash
from Petawawa, the driver
arrived at Saltford last Thurs-
day night with a 36 -ton med-
ium-size Sherman tank on a
trailer behind his truck.
When he saw the old, three-
-span bridge he decided that
his load, totalling about 50
tons, was a .bit too heavy to
try to take across the struc-
ture.

Apparently, the driver didn't
,experience any further diffi-
culty, for nothing more was
heard about him.
If he had arrived here in
about two years' time, perhaps
he wouldn't have had any
trouble crossing the Maitland
into Goderich. Rumor has it
that the old bridge will be re-
placed in the not too distant
future with a modern span.
