Goderich Dodgers Edge Ilderton 9-8;
Errors Costly In 4-2 Loss To Sarnia
The Ilderton ladies' softball team
met the local Dodgers- in a sche-
duled W.O.A.A. game at Agricul-
tural Park on Friday evening and
nearly got away with a win.
Play was ragged and Kay Mc-
Kinnon, on ,the mound for Gode-
rich, was hampered by the absence
of her regular partner behind the
bat, who was preparing, for a
change "in her name the following
day from Morland to Emmerton.
With five runs in the third 'inning
and three in the •fifth, the visitors
led the Dodgers 8-6 until .`the
seventh, when the locals added
three markers to make the final
•score 9-8.
McKinnon had seven strikeouts,
but gave up five walks. Two
sisters, Doris and4Eleanor Scott,
did the hurling for the visitors.
Doris fanned two and Eleanor one,
and each gave up one walk. Ilder-
ton had nine hits and two errors;
Goderich fifteen hits and four mis-
plays.
"Mike" Hartlin and Audrey Mc-
Cabe each contributed a home run
to the Dodgers score.
This game practically finished
the group schedule. Exeter has
dropped out, leaving Mitchell and
Ilderton to contend for a place in
W.O.A.A. "B" team competition,
.while the Dodgers go on into "A"
team play, with Hanover as the
ely opposing nine in the first
series.
The Dodgers went to Sarnia on
Tuesday evening for an exhibition
game with the All -Stars of that city
and took„.the short end of a ,4-2
score: Kay McKinnon, for Gode-
rich, pitched a one -hitter, while
Kramer, for .the All -Stars, yielded
five hits. The Dodgers had poor
luck on the bases, while the All -
Stars took advantage of Goderich
errors.
