Approval By Department .Of Highways
Given To $900 Tender For New Bridge
Colborne Township Council met
for its regular monthly meeting
Tuesday, July 6.
Arthfrir Moore's tender at $900.00
for building the new bridge at lot
3, concessions 11 and 12, was ap-
proved by the Department of »High-
ways. A. M. Harper was present
to give his 1953 audit report. The
operations for the year resulted in
a surplus of $1,993.68 compared
with a surplus of $1,653.35 for 1952.
Hume Clutton appeared before
Council, regarding the grading of
the road to the Baptist Summer
School. He enquired ifothe oper-
ator and grader could be obtained.
It was agreed by Council that Nor-
man Durst give a few days when
possible towards grading this road.
Only one tender...that of George
McBride, was received for the
weigh scales »and building at Mc-
Gaw. Council decided not to ac-
eept the .offer, but .to advertise
these again for sale.
Bills presented and passed for
payment included: Road vouchers,
$1,075.86; Wilfred Fisher, gas for
mower, $8.05; Signar-Star, ad for
scales and building, $2.40; Thomas
Wilson, relief officer, $30; Thomas
Morris, relief account, $35; Graham
Johnston, relief account, $64.82;
County of Huron, maintenance of
indigent patient, $104; County of
Huron,. tree planting, $72.50; Mrs.
William Sallows, salary, $100;
George W. Feagan, caretaker's sal-

Grandmothers Are
Institute Guests
June meeting of Tiger Dunlop
Women's .Institute was held in Car-
low Hall. HIVIrs. Snyder, the presi-
dent, was in the chair.
It was the Grandmother's Meet-
ing and the roll call was to bring
a grandmother and introduce her.
There was a splendid attendance
and each grandmother was pre-
sented" with a corsage. '
Reports were heard from Mrs.
Harold Montgomery, Mrs. Lamb
arid' Mrs. James Horton » on the
district annual » meeting, Plans
were made for a family picnic in
July. Mrs. Snyder then turned,
the meeting over to Mrs., George
Ross who presented the grand-
mother's progi-am. Mrs. James
Feagan, in a quaint old costume,
gave a short sketch on the late
Queen 'Mary. »Mrs. Treble, also in
costume, gave aline of the history
of the Treble family, displaying a
sword used in the Battle of Water-
loo. Mrs. Ed. Montgomery dis-
Played a beautiful silk and wool
shawl of her grandmother's. Miss
Beulah Long displayed a wedding
dress of satin and lace of 4Q -odd
years ago and told the story of
Grandma Moses Mrs. Mitchell, in
an old black costume, displayed
treasures of her grandmother and
told of her grandfather's -ship-
building days. Mrs. Terrence
Hunter told of her grandmother's
early days. 'Mrs. Jarvis McBride
displayed a beautif9I paisley shawl.
In contrast - to their » grand-
mothers, Mrs. F. Fisher gave a
pantomime of ' a grandmother of
1974, a very youthful lady kept
young by vitamins.
Mrs. T. Clark moved a vote of
thanks to these ladies. A delicious
lunch served by Mrs. F. Allin, Miss
B. Long, Mrs. A. Young, Mrs. Ray
Moore and Mrs. J. Fisher.
W.M..S. AUXILIARY
TO MEET JOINTLY
The July meeting of North Street
United Church WM.S. was held in
the Sunday School room. The pre-
sident, Mrs. Harold Turner, oc-
cupied the chair and opened the
meeting.
Reference was made to the bale
of good used clothing which 'had
been shipped to Korea ,recently.
The president expressed apprecia-
tion to Mrs. Howard, Missionary
Monthly convener 'for her efficient
work.It was unanimously decided
to join' with the Evening. Auxiliary
to have a joint Autumn Thank -
offering meeting; also that the
monthly meeting for August be
withdrawn. Five dollars was" voted
to' the flower fund. Twenty-six
calls on the sick•and shut-ins -dur-
ing the month were reported.
Mrs.G. W. Patterson* presided
over, the devotional period. Prayer
was offered by Mrs. Howard Robert-
son. The Scripttire lesson was read
by Mrs.' John Vincent. Miss Ruth
Linklater contributed »a' musical
number, gnawing which Mrs.
;Charles Barker gave a talk.
OBITUARY
MRS. B. McLEOD
'Mrs. Blanche McLeod; mother of
Mrs. G. (Jeannette) Beard of Strat-
fora, died Thursday, July 1, at her
residence in Welland.
Surviving besides ,her daughter,
Jeahnette, is another daughter,
Mrs,„_,. P. (Dorothy) Wharin, Wel-.
land, and two sons, Dr. D. N. Mc-
Leod, Detroit, and John D. McLeod,
Goderich.
Mrs. McLeod rested it the J. A.
Richards funeral home, Vlesherton,
until Monday, Ally 5, for service
at 2.00 pan. Burial wds in Flesh-
erton cemetery. ;

'Miss Betty Zimmerman, of Gor-
rig, attended the bride, in a sim-
ilar gown of pale green with head-„
dress to match. A nosegay of yel-
low roses completed her costume.
Junior ,bridesmaid 'was Miss
Marilyn Finlayson, sister of the
bride, wearing t•ink nylon net over
taffeta gown; with matching head-
dress: -She carried a nosegay of
pink roses.
