LECTERE,-The lecture in the church here on Wednesday evening March 26th, was disappointing as regards attendenee and enthusiasm. • The subject of the lecture as announced was "Equal Rights," but the lecturer, Mr .A. M. Todd of Clinton, did not follow theline it was expected he would take, but devoted himself to a defence of Orange - ism and an explanation of an Orangeman's obligations, demonstrating that in order to be a good consistent Orangeman one must be a Arid's; for no man without a change of heart can truly live as an Orangeman is obliged to live if he is tree to his oath. The lecturer said that in the opinion of many men Orangeism was a synomon of Toryism, and Orangemen were a body of political intrigues on a parallel with the the Jesuits ; but he appealed to their oon- statution to show that • these ideas were utterly false, Mr. Todd is a sincere and enthusiastic believer in Orange principles, but he labored under great difficulty in ad- dressing en Elimville audience. for the great roirenity, whether right or wrong, do not appreciate and take DO interest ha the Orange question, as they believe the man whose heart is filled with love to God, in other words a ohristian man, is as good a citizen fo every way and as loyal to the best interests of his country without t thing an oath as he would be if he took a hundred; and further, they cannot understand how it is that Orauge men declare that Catholics cannot bo trusted and yet at elections they come up to the same trough and take their gruel like mon.
