• • PRAYERS TO THE VIRGIN MARY
•
• Who is my mother and who are my brethren. For whosoever
•
• shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same
• is my -brother, and sister, and mother. St. Matt. 12:48 & 50 0
• .
• In view of a recent paid advertisement in a London paper 0,
• in an effort to enlighten Protestants as to the reason Roman •
2 Catholics PRAY to the Virgin Mary it seems only fair to en -
5 deavor to show Roman Catholics why we as Protestants DO NOT
• PRAY to the Virgin Mary. .,
•
• First of all we have no command from the Lord Jesus to
• pray to his mother. Never did He address her as MOTHER
• on his own behalf in the record of Scripture. '
• •
0.• Not one of the eleven Apostles ever are recorded as offer- 2
• Ing prayer to her. Philip never mentionedher when he preach- w '
• ed Jesus to the Ethiopian church. When the Philippian jailer
•
• cried,' "What must I do to be Saved." Paul did riot say `Tray tor
• the virgin and have her intercede to her Son." He .said, "BE-
•
• LIEVE on the Lord Jesus Christ and THOU shalt be saved."
• When Peter preached on the day of Pentecost he cried,
•
lo "Repent and be baptised EVERY ONE of you in the name of
2 JESUS CHRIS14 for the remission of sins. Peter never corn-
Z. manded prayers to Mary or any person apart from the Father
• in the- name of the Lord Jesus. Jesus does mention praying to
the Father on our behalf but he 'never mentions Mary praying
• ,to Him for us. . ,
• If Mary bore petitions to Christ for us shethen becomes a
•
• MEDIATOR. God's Word says, "For there is one God, and
• ONE MEDIATOR between God and men, the man Christ.
: I Tim. 2:5. •
• If Mary intercedes to Christ for us she &comes an inter-
• .cessor but- in Hebrews 7:25 we read, "Wherefore He (Jesus) is
•
• able also to saye them to the uttermost that come unto God by
• HIM seeing he ever liveth to make INTERCESSION for them.
• If we give these positions to Mary we have to take then from
•
• Christ. How can we when, the Father has committed them to ,2
• Him FOREVER? Protestants ' give to the Virgin Mary the g
