Huron LionsClubs Undertake Survey
Of Ail Crippled Children In Huron

A survey of all crippled children
in Huron -County is now under
way. The aim of the survey is to
find crippled children who would
benefit from medical or surgical,
treatment.
The survey was planned at a
meeting in Huron County Health
Unit, March 19, of representatives
from fiVe"Lions Clubs in the county
Dr, E.A. McMaster, Seaforth, acted
as chairman and C. IL Epps, Clin
ton, as secretary -treasurer. These
are the same officers as in 1952
when the last crippled children's
survey and clinic was held. Dr.
R. M. Aldis offered to assist the
secretary if the need arises.
Represented at the meeting were

Clinton, were J. Bennett of Dun-
gannon, J. Richardson, of White-
church, and J. G. Mullan, of Clin-
ton.
The meeting was a special one
called for the purpose of dealing
with a call from the congregation
of Coldstream in the West Toronto
Presbytery,. made out in favour of
Rev. M. Bailie, of Bluevale and.
Belmore charges. Rev. D'. J. Lane
introduced the call and read the
terms of it. Rev. J. R. Graham, of
Chalmers congregation, Toronto,

and Dr. E. Foreman, of Morning -
'side congregation, Toronto, Clerk
of, the West Toronto Presbytery,
were present, and spoke in support.

sion Bands, and Affiliated Societies.
This Synodical was the largest in
financial givings during 1953.. It
is made up of ten Presbyterials:
Bruce and Owen Sound, Chatham,
Hamilton, Huron, London, Mait-
land, Niagara, Paris, Sarnia, and
Stratford. The combined member-
ship, inclusive of Active and Home
Helpers is striving 'toward .s' -the
15,000 mark.

The Goderich *Girls' Trumpet
Band. is being 'rigorously drilled
at practices to really "go places"
during the coming season. Through-
out the winter months one full re-
heansal and two section ,rehearsals
were held weekly, .Now an extra
full rehearsal each week is to be
held to practise for Canadian
championship class in the com-
petition at the Waterloo Musical
Festival the last week in„Jtine,
Bandmaster Don Jolley has. in-

marched four abreast they will
march five this year. **
The band will have two bass,
drums which, as far as Bandmaster
Jolley is aware of, will be the only
girls' band In Canada to have two
bass drums. It will also have five
bell lyres. „
The capes at all: the uniforms
are to be re -lined to give them
new- sparkle. All the girls will be
• equipped with flashy majorette
boots. In addition, new instru-
ments are being purchased.
Such a maidr program entails
considerable expense and the girls'
band seeks the support of Goderich
and .district citizens. They are
holding a draw, on a date to be
announced later, to help raise
necessary funds. The draw is for
a beautiful cuddle doll with com-
plete wardrobe. - Each member off
the band is:now selling tickets for
this draw. They sell. at ten cents
each .or -three tickets -for -25 tents.

dictions made by the U.S, Lake
Survey, U.S. Army Carps of Engin-
eers, Detroit.
Estimates show that. the probable
high monthly average level this

582.14 in 1953. All-time high
monthly level was 583.68. ;AVer-
age level in January of this "year
was 580.55.
All Great Lakes are expected to
reach highs somewhat below the
high monthly average levels of,
1953, ,Throughout thb navigation
season, April to November, Lake
Huron is expected, to be about 0.9
'feet below, last year's levels dnring
the same period.
REMAND LOCAL MEN
IN WALKERTON COURT
Two Goderich- men who pleaded
-guilty--4o-- charges -nein -unlawfully
obtaining food from a Kincardine
restaurant and with breaking, en-
tering and theft from the home of
William Geddes, Kincardine, were
remanded one week for sentence
by Magistrate Otto McClevis in
court at Walkerton last Thursday.
Gerald Spain and Jack Rutledge
were taken into custody by Pro-
vincial Police at Port Albert. Police
recovered the stolen goods, a radio,
chest of silverware and- a coat -
'Rhin 24 hours after the break-in.

mean trick," Magistrate D. E.
Holmes, Q.C., imposed a fine of $25
and costsor three weeks in jail
on 20 -year-old R J. Bouchard, of
Quebec, City, in court here last
week,
Bouchard pleaded guilty to theft,
of a , radio and a gloat, from . bar-
racks at the RCAF Station, Clinton.
Assistant Crown Attorney F. R.
Darrow told- the court that the
accused had been discharged, from
the 'air force on March 22 at Clin-
ton and was apprehended the same
day by palice in Toronto with the
stolen articles in his possession.
Magistrate Holmes said he 'felt
the theft was a "poor 'piece of
business" since the'.articles were
‚left unguarded in the barracks.
Vancouver has the most hotels of

A spree in a Blyth restaurant
kitchen cost an 18 -year-old Blyth
youth $25 and costs or 10 bag in
court here last Thursday.
Harold Campbell, of Blyth, plead-
ed guilty to a 'charge of minion
assault against Charles Chan, a
cook at the restaurant. A second
charge of- carrying an offensive
weapon, Was, dismissed.
Assistant Crown Attorney F. R.
Darnow told the court the 'accused

into an argument with the cook.
A scuffle , ensued and the youth
picked up a knife. Defence coun-
sel Frank Dannelly, 'QC., told the
court that the accused made no
move to use the weapon. "The
young man realizes," he said "that
it was a foolish thing to do.'
