First To Go In'
In Canada 'there are only a few
Very' hardy things that can be:
planted just as -soon as the^ground
: is fit to work, which means as soon
as it can be 'dug or cultivated with-
out packingor puddling. Among
those very hardy plants will be
most trees, shru1bbery, vines and
herbaceous . ,,shrubbery,
Perennials, grassseed
of course, sweet perhaps
'the 'first gardenpeas, lettuce ..and
radishes. A late frost will hurt
none of these and. they -actually
prefer cool, moist weather.

Can Plan Anyway
After the kind of winter we have
just experienced in most of Canada
there is some doubt now . as to
whether this 'continent, is getting
any warmer. But'there is no doubt
at .all about 'springy, and that season,
late or early, means ,the beginning
of gardening again.
In some of the 'wanner parts. of
the country, planting will have
started already. In'others we may
have to wait for a few' weeks yet.
As a general rifle, the experts
say, it is ' best to proceed gradu-'
ally. Far more seed and- effort'
are wasted, they claim, by rushing
ahead,` rather than waiting until
too late.
In the meantime -it is possible a to
plan "and -that should `give us more
lbeauty in flowers, more quality' m
vegetables and .more general satis-
faction, all'round. -

For this planning a good Can,
adianseed catalogue is indispen-
sable. Canadian is stressed ad-
visedly and for very practical rea-
sons. ' Only varieties that have
been specially tested and approved
for Canadian conditions are -listed
in Canadian catalogues.
Some things .may thrive excep-
tionally well in 'another' country
but they . may be far 'too tender
for our rugged climate or they may.
take much too long to mature or.
