PORTALERT, Dec. 30. — Mrs.
Mary Dickson, of Calgary, is spend-
ing the Christmas holiday with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Led -
nor. Her son, Kenneth, who has
been sailing on the Great Lakes
the past season, is spending the
winter months with his grandpar-
ents.
Mrs. James McKenzie, who has
been spending the past year with
her daughter, Mrs. Percy Dahmer
and family, in Waterloo, is hone
for the Christmas season.
Ten members of . the United
Church W.M.S. and W.A. met at
the home of Mrs. Howard Quaid for
the December meeting. The presi-
dent, Mrs: Bert Crawford, was in
charge of the meeting. The theme
was "Christmas Worship." The
meeting opened with a Christmas
carol. • Mrs. Lednor Mrs. Charles
Crawford and Mrs. Earl Bogie read
passages of. Scripture. The presi-
dent led in prayer. Mrs., Ernest
Crawford gave a reading. - Plans
were made for a Mission Band
Christmas party.' Installation of
the officers for the W.M.S. and
W.A. for 1954 was conducted by
Rev. Watt. The president, Mrs.
Earl Bogie, presided over the Wo-
man's Association meeting. Plans
for Christmas gifts and cards were
completed, . Rev. Watt conducted
the election of' officers, Which re-
culted as follows: President, Mrs.
Earl Bogie; first vice-president,
Mrs. Howard Quaid; second vice-
president, Mrs. Donald McKenzie;
secretary -treasurer, ' Mrs. Bert
Crawford. A work committee con-
sists obf Mrs. B. Crawford, Mrs.
William Brown, Mrs. Essex, Mrs.
Rod McKenzie, Mrs. Fielder and
Mrs. E. Crawford; parsonage com-
mittee. Mrs. II. Quaid, Mrs. E.
Bogie and Mrs. Ernest Crawford.
Rev. Watt closed the meeting with
prayer, after' which'Mrs. Quaid
served lunch.

NILE, Dec. 30.—Mr. and Mrs.
D. C. Brown, Wellston, Ohio, spent
the Christmas holidays with Mr.
and Mrs. William McCann and
other relatives. Mrs. Joseph Mc-
Cann, Mrs. Brown's mother, went
back with them to spend the
winter.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Johnston
were with their daughter, Mrs.
Falconer and Mr. Falconer for
Christmas. Mr. and Mrs.: Graham
Johnston spent Christmas , at Clin-
ton.
The Ntie school concert on De-
cember 22 -was well attended. Little
Donald McNeil drew the. ticket
for the coffee table and Miss Lois
Matthews was the lucky winner.
Santa Claus, of course, was the
big attraction.
Last week's choral service _open-
ed with a song by Nile choir. Dun-
gannon choir then gave two num-
bers. J. C. Durnin and Jim Reed
played two instrumentals with Mrs.
Reed as accompanist; piano solo,
Douglas Squires; solo, Miss Shir-
ley Burden; Scripture, Rev. G.
Watt; anthem, chow; solo, Miss
Gail Godfrey; 'chorus, junior girls;
duet; Mrs. Reed and Mrs. Stothers,
accompanist, Mrs. Stingel; solo,
Miss Shirley Burden; choir, "BIess

Mr, and Mrs. L. Biddy, Montreal,
spent the Christmas holidays with
Mrs. Biddy's parents, Mr. and Mrs.

OBITUARY
ALFRED J. -ERRINGTON,
Funeral service was held Mon-
day afternoon from his • residence
on the 6th concession of Colborne
Township for Alfred J. Errington,
83, who died in Alexandra -Marine
and General hospital on Christmas
Day. Rev. D. J. Lane, of Clinton,
officiated.
AT Errington was born, in Eng-
land in 1870. a son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. David Errington. He
farmed all his life in Ashfield
Township and Colborne Township.
He was a member_of Knox Presby -

UNION, GODERICH TOWN-
SHIP, Dec. 30.—A special Sunday
service. -commemorating Christlnas
was held in Union Sunday school
with pupils and teachers taking
part. The superintendent; Everett
Mcllwain, was in charge and open-
ed the service with a carol and
prayer. The Scripture was read
by the Junior department. Each
teacher read a. story and lit a
candle for her class. The service
closed wth a litany and prayer by
Rev. D. W. Williams.
Concert.—Union school combin-
ed with the Sunday school, and pre-
sented a fine performance on Mon-
day evening, with Rev. D. W. Wil-
liams as master of ceremonies.
The opening recitation was by
Wayne Vanstone; "ChristmasCav-
alcade," entire school; piano solo,
Patricia Mcllwain; "Merry Christ-
mas," nursery class; "Spelling
Bee," junior boys; recitations,
Lloyd Smith and Brian Porter; solo,
Walter Mcllwailn; "Santa's Loyal
Helpers," juniors; folk dance, sen-
ior girls; play, "Child Psychology,"
by Mrs William Porter's class;
recitations, Elaine Smith, Barbara
Smith, . Andrea Williams; panto-
mime. "Old Roger is Dead," by the
juniors; "Rose Rope Drill," by Mrs.
Porter's class. A play, "Merry
' Christmas," which included the
whole school, closed the program.

Mary Ann Mallough, he is sur-
vived by two daughters, Mrs. Al-
bert McClinchey, of Carlow, and
Mrs. L. MacDonald, of Galt; and
one son, Roy, of Ottawa, who is
associated with the installation of
atomic equipment and was instru-
mental in the development of the
Cobalt bomb for cancer treatment.

VEHICLE LEAVES ROAD,
OyERTURNS IN FIELD'
Two Detroit youths received only
minor injuries and shock when
their car went on an unscheduled
detour off No. 8 Highway, three
miles east of Goderich on Christ-'
mas Day.
The vehicle left the road, bound-
ed across a ditch, went 250 feet
through a farmer's field and rolled
over.
The driver, Fred Statton, receiv-
ed an injured hand and his pas-
senger, William Goude, suffered
shock. Damage was estimated at
$2,000.
Adran French, of the Clinton
R.C.A.F. Station, was charged with
driving while his ability was im-
paired following an accident on
No. 4 Highway north of Clinton.
The accident occurred when
French's car crashed into the rear
of a parked car, owned by Ray-
mond Ponto, also, of the Clinton
R.C.A.F. Station.
CHEQUES SENT OUT
FROM TORNADO FUND
Cheques have been sent out by
the Warden's Committee of Huron
County Council to farmers who
-suffered damage in last May's
tornado.
Most recent grant received by
the county was one of $18,160 from
the Federal Government, bringing
the total in the tornado fund to
$61148.93.
bffter donations to the fund have
been: County of Huron, $10,000;
public subscript qns, $8,810.48;
Province of Ontar'io': $9,152.24; Na-
tional Disaster Fund, $22,000.
The total receipts of slightly
over $68,000 resulted in a payment
of approximately 45 cents on the
dollar for approved claims.
