DODGERS DROP THRILLER
TO SAI NIA VISITORS
'r GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR
The snappiest ball game seen
were in many a moon was played
en Monday night as a feature of
the Labor Day program. It was
an exhibition set-to between the
local Dodgers ladies' softball nine
and the Sarnia All -Stars, crack
team of the Michigan Ontario
ladies' fastball league. For nine
innings the score was a series of
blanks, and in an overtime inning
the visitors put across the only
tally of the game.
Kramer and Devereaux were the
battery for the All -Stars: McKin-
non and Wood for the Dodgers.

The visitors scored 11 scattered
hits, while only one was credited
to the Dodgers, this from the bat
of Audrey McCabe. Smart fielding
by the locals offset. the visitors'
batting superiority, and in only
two innings did the Sarnians show
more than once in the hit column.
By bunching three hits in the over-
time frame, coupled with an error,
the visitors managed to get the
winning run across the plate.
Kramer struck out 16, while Mc-
Kinnon 'whiffed 11. Kramer walk-
ed 4; McKinnon allowed only one
pass.

At Labor Day Race Meet In Goderich
By G. O'B.
Over two .thousand people wit-
nessed a keenly -contested program
of harness horse racing here on
Monday afternoon as the Goderich
Trotting Association joined with the
Goderich Trades and Labor Coun-
cil to present their third annual
Labor Day program.
Although some of the big name
horses were missing, the meet did
not lack interest as almost every
heat was a thriller.
The outstanding horse of the
afternoon was Lena's 13r,y, the
four-year-old pacer owned by Reg.
McGee & Sons, of Goderich, and
driven by Lloyd Turvey. '1'liis
pacer won both heats of the 2.18
class easily and went the first
heat in 2.09, the fastest time of
the afternoon.
Belle Direct, owned by O. L.
Parr of London, chased Lena's Boy
home in the first heat, but had to
go all out to beat Nancy, Patch for
the place position in the - second
heat. -
Betty Jane' Brooke, owned by
George German, of Clinton, cap-
tured top money in the non -win-
ners of $2500 class, by taking a
second and first.
Donnie G. Lee, another Parr•
owned horse won the first heat,
but broke in the stretch to finish.
third in the final session.
The non:winners of $1200 class
was probably the most keenly con-
tested race of the afternoon, with
Ima Chips,- - owne
d and 'driven by
Bud Jerry of Goderich, emerging
as the: eventual winner, with a
first and °second. Norval Brooke,
owned by Dr. Houze . of- Mitchell
finished fifth in the first heat after
leading most of the way, but came
back to capture the final heat by
a length. Gardner Brothers'
Sylvia Lee, driven by Bill Gardner,
was in the thick of the battle all
the way in finishing second and
third.
Wilson Oke's mare, Ada Mc-
Lennan, proved the best of .the
non -winners of $400 class by win-
ning both' heats handily. Darlene
Day, owned and driven by Torn
Yearly was second each trip.
Merry Brooke, owned by Alvin
Cook of Stratford -was the winner
of the non -winners of $200 class
with a first and second, but George
Feagan's two-year-old. colt, Pat Lee
Grattan, won a -lot of admirers by
capturing his maiden victory in
the second heat by several lengths
after finishing third in the first
heat. - The colt was ably handled
by Harry Feagan.
Another. Goderich-owned two-
year-old, The G. Boy, owned by
Reg. McGee & Sons and driven by
Lloyd Turvey, impressed with a
fourth and third his first time out.
