Successful Show In Forester's Mil
The \ third annual Horticultural
Flower Show held in the Forester's
Hall proved thrilling to the spec-
tators. There were 165 exhibits.
Points were given as follows:
Three points for #rst; hvo points
for second, and one point for
third. Mrs. R. J. Phillips earned
highest number of points, 39. The
novelty display was unique and
interesting arranged by Mrs. F.
0. McIlveen and Mrs. Ed. Davies.
The displays of cosmos, asters, zin-
neas and marigolds were attractive-
ly arranged in the background and
floor with evergreens and ferns
and -a border across the front
with alyssium and ageratum. This
display, which took up one corner
of the hall, was lighted and the
arrangement was in charge of Mrs.

school room. The meeting opened
by repeating the Member's pur-
pose. The Scripture lesson was
read by Harvey Snell; prayer by
Mrs. Norman McDowell; reading'
Ronald Snell. The study book was
given by Mrs. Hugh Blair; reading,
Lyle Smith. The story was given
by Mrs. Norman McDowell. The
meeting closed with prayer by Mrs.
Blair.

The youth,' Stanley Nelson, of
R.R. 9, London1 bad been charged
with creating a disturbance.
Coastable Morley Groves of the
Provincial Police, Goderich de-
tachment testified that on the night
of August 14 his attention was at-
tracted by a noise on the Square.
He said he saw the accused shout-
ing •at three other youths, and
identified him as 'a habitual nuis-
ance in the town.
He said the accused gave him a
birth certiacate which later proved
to belong to someone else. The
youth admitted he had been drink-
ing, the constable said.
Passing judgment the magistrate
said, "I'm quite willing to be
lenient with yop—but I'll only do
it for you once."
PORTER'S HILL
PORTER'S HILL, Sept. 2.—The
W.A. of Grace Church met at the
home of Mrs. Bill Townsend for
their August meeting. The presi-
dent, Mrs. Donald Harris -opened
the meeting. The Scripture was
read by Mrs. Arlie Lockhart. Roll
call was the exchange ota jar of
jam or jelly. The secretary -treas-
urer read her' reports also thank -
you notes from- three in the com-
munity who had received fruit or
flowers while sick were read. Dur-
ing the afternoo a quilt was
quilted. There wasquite a lengthy
business discussion. It was de-
cided to give the B ard of Stew-
ards a donation to help out with
financial affairs of the church. The
September meeting will be held in
the basement of the church.

from a special one week 'course
in how to teach arc welding con-
ducted by the Lincoln Electric
Company at its new $10,000,000
plant. in Cleveland, Ohio.

ing to the Encyclopedia Britan-
nica.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Patterson,
of Grand Prairie, Alta., have been
visiting relatives here and their
daughter in New York. Mrs. Pat-
terson was a delegate from Alberta
to the A.C.W.W. convention which
was held in Toronto.
Mrs. Fred Ross and Donald Ross
are visiting friends in Peterbora
and Ottawa.
Women's Institute.—Members of
the Women's Institute held their
August meeting in the Forester's
Hall with Mrs. Wes. Bradnock pre-
siding and Mrs. Donald 'Fowler as
secretary. Mrs. Ed. Davies gave
an interesting talk. A harmonica
selection was given by Mrs. Everett
Taylor and a tmar,tette selection
was given by June Letherland,
Marlene Easom, Ruth Million and
Rena McClinchey, accompanied by
Mrs. R. J. Philips. The topic was
given by Miss Ethel Wfshington.'
It was decided to hold the next
meeting on September 24. This
is the Grandmother's meeting.

Funeral Held.—The funeral ser-
vice far the late Geoige Wellington
Henry was held from the Arthur
funeral home viith interment in
Maitland cemetery. Rev. H. C.
Wilson,,Clinton, conducted the ser-
vice in the absence of -Rev C.
Washington. Mr-. Henry died sud-
denly at the home of his niece,
Mrs. W. A. Hack, Denfield, where
he had been visiting. He had
planned to come to Auburn- the
next day to visit his niece, Mrs.
Charles Scott. Mr, Henry was the
son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George
Henry, and was born at Westfield
Jtily 1, 1878. For many .years he
had lived in Vancouver. Last year
he took up residence with his
nephew, James Henry, Windsor.
Surviving besides several nieces
and nephei.vs is one soh, Roy, Gull
Lake, Sask... •and one sister, Mrs.
John Dowell. Granton. He was
predeceased by Thur brothers and
four sisters.
CAMP CLOSES
Eighty girls in Camp Minnehaha
on the shore of Lake Huron north
of Goderich broke camp last week
and headed homeward.
The girls comprised the nine to
15 age group in the Huron Pres-
bytery of the United Church. The
girls came from all parts of Huron
County. During, their -stay the
–girls were taught to swim, given
water safety training; crafts, Bible
Study, and took part in a full line
of sports.
