Mr. Graham and Lorne of Port
Albert.
Mr. and Mrs. Chester, Fulford
and Mervyn, of Pittsburg, Pa., spent
holidays recently with the formers
parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Fut
ford and family.
Mrs. Andrew < Bogie was in
Kitchener last Friday attending
the' funeral of her cousin, Mrs.
Laurene Bezeau.
Mrs. M. E. Terrell returned to
her home in Preston after a
months' vacation with Mr. and Mrs.
James Horton and family. She
retua; ped with. Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Kirk. Lloyd and Larry, who motor-
ed from Preston Sunday afternoon:
Mrs. Frank Barclay and three
boys, Frankie, Christopher, and
John, are en route to their home
in England following a three month
visit with her father, Irving Hunter
and Mrs. Hunter and with her sis-
ter, Miss Grace Hunter, R.N., at
her cottage at Hunter's Beach.
Laeburn W.M.S.-Mrs. R. Swan.
ton, of Sudbury, holidaying for
two months at Bogie's Beach, was
the guest. speaker when the Lee -
burn W.M.S. met at the home of
Mrs. Rod Bogie for their August
meeting. The speaker centred her
address on the country of Mon-
golia where her parents served as
missionaries and where she was
born and raised. Mrs. Terence
Hunter favored with a reading.
Prayer was given by Miss Belle
Shaw. The ladies are invited to
meet with Mrs. Frank Rising for
their September meeting.

Clark, nurse -in -training at Wing -
ham .hospital, spent the week -end
at her home here.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Robertson,
Mr. and Mrs. Tait Clark, took the
bus trip conducted by the soil and
crop improvement association, visi-
ting in Vineland and seeing the
hydro development at Queenston.
They also saw Niagara Falls. s .
The W.M.S. of Smith's Hill held
their August meeting at the cot-
tage' of Mrs. Frank -Mcllwain f at
Bogie's Beach. It Was a lovely
day but unfortunately the ' busy
time kept some of the members
from attending. The theme for
the day was "Untrodden Ways."
A meditation was given by Mrs.
Treble. Mrs. Robert Bean gave
some interesting extracts of the
W.M.S. work in Canada taken from
the yearly report. Mrs. Treble re-
vieved some of the address given
by Mrs. John McKillop, the Do-
minion board president. The min-
utes were read,. and adopted. The
roll call was ,answered by eight
members. There were four visi-
tors. Mrs. Mcllwain- served a de-
licious lunch and a happy time
was held by all.
It was the privilege of six mem-
bers of the Tiger Dunlop Institute,
Mrs. Robert Bean, Mrs. E. Mitchell,
Mrs.. S. Snyder, Mrs. H. Brindley,
Mrs.. Ray Moore and Mrs. Tait
Clark, to attend Canada Day at
the A.C.W.W. in Toronto. Leaving
in the early morning they arrived
in time . to stand in line for the
doors opening at 12 o'clock noon.

session began. About 8,000 women
rose and sang the Institute Ode
and then repeated the Mary Stew-
art Collect. After the introduction
of the provincial president, Can-
ada Day was officially opened by
Hon. Stewart Garson. The Junior
Farmer Choir from Oxford County
delighted the audience with three
numbers. In the evening the pag-
eant "Dominion of Destiny" was
given. The pageant depicted the
history of Canada from the earliest
days.

A $10,000 fire truck just deliv-
ered fol. the Blyth district . fire
area will serve townships of Hut-
lett, Morris, East Wawanosh, parts
of Colborne, McKillop and West
Wawanosh and the -villages of
Blyth and Auburn. The truck
will be housed in Blyth.
R. E. Thompson, clerk of Gode-
rich Township, has been under
treatment in the Clinton hospital
as the result of an injury received
while working with the combine
on his farm. He suffered a com-
plicated break in the leg between
knee and ankle.
T. Orville Southcott, owner of
the Southcott Bros. general store
at Exeter, has sold the business to
Douglas Gould of Toronto, and Ray
Jory, of Hay Township. The t ew
proprietors will continue in The
same line of business. They will
take possession in about six weeks.
J. M. Sanders, prominent for
many years as a business man at
Exeter, died suddenly on August
26th at his home in that town. He
was one of the founders of the
Exeter Canning Company, now a
branch of Canadian Canners Ltd.,
and also operated a factory mak-
ing boys' clothing. Ile was 88
years of age.

Stratford and District Credit
Union Chapter will hold its next
regular meeting at St. Joseph's
School in Goderich next Tuesday,
September 8, it was decided at an
executive meeting of the group.
.Members of all district credit
unions and Goderich citizens have
been invited to attend the, meeting,
at which there will be a special,
speaker. A credit union° film will
also be showif and refreshments

Training Camp.
Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Mathers,
Keith and Judith are on a two -
weeks' trip to Boston, Mass., where
they are visiting friends and rela-
tives. They were accompanied by.
Mrs. Mathers' mother, Mrs. J. Bar -
gent of Toronto.
Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Ewing and
two children, Esther and Morrey
have taken up residence in Mrs.
D. D. Mooney's house , on North
street. Mr. Ewing is music in-
structor in the Goderich Schools.
JAYCEES PLANNING
LEADERSHIP COURSE
A program to educate members
and the general public in leader-
ship both in business and social
life is planned this year as a pro-
ject by Goderich Junior Chamber
of Commerce.
Called the leadership training
course, . it will have three phases:
procedure and rules of order, tlusi-
ness administration, and effective
speaking.
Instructors will be graduates of
former -, effective speaking classes
held in> =the past by the Jaycees.
Plans Call, . for classes at which
guest speakers will be heard and
periods of instruction and prac-,
tical training.
Plans are to have the • course
open to the public and at the com-
pletion of the course, to present
certificates to successful.candidates-
Last year the Jaycees conducted
a successful effective speaking
course in which several persons
who were not menibers of the
organization participated

Barbara Brandon, was the winner
in the beauty contest conducted
by the Lions Ctub of Zurich. Don-
na Taylor, Brucefield, and Edith
Kinn, R.R. 4, Brussels, were placed
second and third.
