regular, and a subsequent special
meeting,, were read and adopted.

As a result of the open season
for a deer hunt In Huron from
Npvember 4 to 7, it was agreed
that all dogs should be `-prohibited
' from running at large in this sea-
son. By-law No. 11 Was filled in,
given three readings and passed,
to cover this.
By-law No. 10, for the•:,;levying of
taxes in the township was given
three readings and passed. In this
connection the general rate for
township purposes was set at 9
mills, County 10 and the general
school rate at three mills.
The following accounts were
ordered paid: Norman Tyndall, fox
bounty, $4.00; Municipal World,
supplies, 77c; Chas. E. Wise, tele-
phone loan, $1,000.00; Workmen's
Compensation Board, fees, $29.28;
Direct.Relief, $30.00; Road Super-'
intendent's pay roll, $592.34.
Council then adjourned till
September 7 at 7.30 p.m.

The heirs of the Estate of the late Peter
MacEwan will offer for sale by tender the Mac -
Ewan residence situated on Lots •661 and 707 in
the Town of Goderich. The property consists of
a two storey brick residence. Tenders will be

Congratulations to town council
for the work it has done in the
advancement of town was extended
by a former mayor at last Friday
night's council meeting.
Robert E. Turner, of Stratford,
who served as mayor of Goderich
in 1944 and is a former warden of
Huron County, was welcomed as a
visitor to the meeting by Mayor
J. E. Huckins:
Speaking briefly, Mr. Turner con-
gratulated the present mayor,
council, Junior Chamber of Com-
merce and others who aided in
bringing new industry to the town.
Mr. Turner commented that he
read the Signal -Star every week
and noticed the increased activity
in Goderich.
"We spent a good many years
trying to get new lindustries in
town. Now that you've started
I'm sure the industrial activity will
continue," he said:
He added that he hoped the
"good old town would move along
as probably it should have moved'
in the days gone by." •
TAX SALE HINTED AS '
POSSIBILITY IN TOWN
Possibility of a tax sale in Gode-
rich loomed last Friday "night at'
town council meeting following a
report by Town Clerk S. H. Blake
that there were about a dozen
properties in arrears on taxes..
The clerk, noting- that it had
been some time since a tax" sale
was held in. town, said that it was
perfectly in order to holt 6ne
He noted that .last year, there'
were only two properties sufficient-
ly in arrears to ; warrant a sale, so
that none was held.
Town: cuncil decided that best
procedure would be to have the
list of arrears checked by the
council as committee of the whole
before any decision on the matter
is made.
HEAVY FINE. IMPOSED
FOR IMPAIRED DRIVING
Found guilty of impaired driv-
ing, Harold Boyce, , of Brucefield,
was fined $50 and costs or seven
days by Magistrate D. E. Holmes,
Q.C., last Thursday in police court
here.
Boyce had pleaded not. guilty to
a charge of drunk driving.
The offence was alleged to have
been committed at Bayfield on
July 31. Constable • C. J. Parkin-
son testified that while investigat-
ing an accident on No. 21 Highway
he saw a car proceeding north-
ward with only one headlight _ Ile
said he attempted to flag down the
car, but had to jump 'clear when it
proceeded onward ,and stopped
about 150 feet away.„
He said the accused smelled
strongly of alcohol . and had four
full bottles of beer in the car. A
passenger in the car, the officer
said, was in a drunken stupor.
No evidence was offered by the
accused. He was represented by
Frank Donnelly, Q.C.

Charges of auto theft against
two Clinton airmen were with-
drawn-

apprehended by police in London.

the two were serving 90 -day . deten-
tion sentences • meted out by the -t
airforce.

ever, pleaded guilty to cartheft
charges and were fined.
Harry Lee, 22, and James Sword, 4
17, charged jointly with taking a
car without the owner's• consent,
were . each fined $25 and costs or s► r `
two weeks in jail. Lee was also l
fined $10 and costs or five days
when he pleaded guilty torat-
ing a vehicle Without a permit.
Crown Attorney Hays told the Maethat HOG
court that the two were chased by
London police on a 'routine check-
up and were not stopped until the
police fired a shot.

operating a motor vehicle without
a permit, heard his case adjourned
for two . weeks. . -
Laid over for one week were
impaired driving and careless driv,
ing charges against Clare McBride,
carless driving charge . against
Clarence LeBeau,careless- driving
against James. . Redmond and
impaired driving against Clayton
Steels. The latter asked for 'op-
portunity to obtain counsel.
Also adjourned 'for aWee was
a charge of creating a .:public mis-
chief laid agaihat William -Swan.
