NILE, June 24. -Mr. and Mrs.
A. McCartney, of Clintpct, visited
Mrs. A. Mcllwain last Thursday,
Harold Knight had two toes am-
putated in Seaforth hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mitchell and
Audrey, Goderich Township, were
Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs.
Cliff McNeil.
The June meeting of the Nile
W.A. was held at the home of
Mrs. C. Dustow, Goderich. The
meeting, with Mrs. A. Kerr in
charge, opened with a hymn.
Scriiiture was read by Mrs. '0.
Moore. The topic, "Purity of
Heart," followed by prayer was
given by Mrs. D. McDiarmid. A
reading was given by Mrs. Har-
rower. • The roll call was answered
by 20 members. Minutes were.
read and adopted. Business period
followed. Mrs. Harrower wis pre-
sented with a gift as she and
Mr. Harrower are leaving at the
end of June to take up residence
at Lawrence. The meeting closed
with a hymn. Hostesses for the
day were Mrs. Lawrence Feagan,
Mrs. Harvey Fisher and Mrs. H.
Johnston.
Rev. J. Harrower will preach his
farewellsermon at Nile on Sun-
day.

PORTER'S HILL, June 24. -The
June meeting of the Community
Club was held at the home of Mrs.
Allen Betties. The president, Mrs.
Pete Harrison, opened the meet-
ing. Secretary and treasurer's re-
ports were read and adopted and
three cards .of thanks were read
from three members who were
sick. It was moved and .seconded
that ten dollars be donated to the
fund for the storm -stricken area.
The roll call was answered by
naming a favorite flower. Mrs.
Austin Harris conducted a contest.
The mystery prize was , won by
Mrs. Alvin Betties. During the
afternoon, a quilt was quilted.
The July meeting will be held at
the home of Mrs. Bill Townsend.
There will be no church service
or Sunday school this Sunday as
Mr. and Mrs. Renner have not yet
returned home from their holi-
days.
The S.S. No. 5 school is holding
its annual picnic this Friday even-
ing in Bayfield.

PUPILS FROM STANLEY
VISIT GODERICH PLANTS
With school days just about all
over for another term, 40 school
children from Stanley Township
come by bus to Goderich....t . visit
a number of local plants. They
were accompanied by their teach-
ers", Mrs. Mina Talbot, No. 6 Stan
ley; Mrs. Ruby Webster, No. 10,
Stanley.
The youngsters first visited the
salt plant' of the Dominion Tar
and Cheinical Co., Ltd. Then, thfy
came to the Signal -Star plant to
see how a weekly newspaper is
put out. Next, they visited the
Holeproof Hosiery plant to see
how socks are made and then to
the Huron County Museum. Fin-
ally they went to Saltford Heights
to see how J3isset's ice cream and
creamery butter are made.
OFFICERS ELECTED BY
NORTH HURON TEACHERS
Mrs. Lotrise Porter, of Brussels,
was elated president of the North
Huron Teachers' Federation at a
business meeting at Melville
Church in Brussels.
Other officers are: Miss Luella
Mitchell, Brussels, secretary; Miss
Jessie Little, Brussels, treasurer;
Mrs. Porter and 'Mrs: Jeanne Ire-
land, delegates to the annual meet-
ing in August at Toronto.
At a second meeting Mrs. Ire-
land was elected president of the
Brussels unit of the North Huron
Federation and Miss Little, secre-
tary -treasurer.

A complete set of examinations
in some 19 subjectUiave been set
and approved for the coming year
by the board of examiners of the
Canadian Business Schools Associ-
ation which held a three day con-.
vention at Windsor the Latter part
of last week. The Goderich Busi-
ness College was represented at
the convention by its principal,
Mrs. Elmer Weaver.
The convention appointed a re-
search ,committee to make inten-
sive examination of the changing
trends in business office require-
ments and to keep the approved
course of study in line with these
requirements.
Representatives of business
schools from British Columbia to
Qµebec attended the convention,
•the banquet for which was held at
the Prince Edward Hotel. Speak-
ers included officials of the Under-
wood Company and the . Royal
Typewriter Company.
PlCIESr LEAVING
The congregation of St.'Michael's
Roman Catholic Church at Blyth
was sorry to hear the announce-
ment by their priest, Rev. J. L.
O'Rourke, Sunday morning, that
next Sunday he would celebrate his
farewell 'pass as priest of , the
parish of Clinton and Blyth. Fath-
er O'Rourke is transferring to St.
Joseph's Church, Sarnia.

were dedicated in memory of Paul
