Goderich Township Council Agrees To
Zone Fire Areas At Clinton Meeting
Members of the Goderich Town-
ship Council beaded by its reeve.
Edward Grigg, appeared in a body
before the regular meeting of town
council in Clinton to iron out dif-
ficulties which arose through fire
protection given the township by
the Clinton Fire Department.
The township reeve stated .that
his council, like all other councils
was aiming to 'keep down expenses
as much as possible.' Fire pro-
tection to date this year has cost
his township ;850, for which no
grant.« is received. The township
has an agreement for fire protec-
tion with the village of Bayfield,
and the towns of Goderich and
Clinton.
A problem arose 'earlier this
year when all three fire depart-
ments were called to the scene of
a ' fire, while the owner concerned
called only one fire fighting equip.
, trent..: ,The township contested
paying the second hour service
to the Clinton Brigade, but after. a
discussion agreed that the money
would be forthcoming. The town-
ship council upon the advice of the
Clinton Council agreed to zone
the township into areas, at- the
suggestion of Caryl Draper, chair-
man of the town's fire and water
committee. "`
Said Morgan Agnew, town coun-
cillor, "Goderich Township has
some work to do with their present
fire protection set -up -while Clin-
ton wishes to be neighborly -we
have to think of the $16,000worth
of equipment we own, and of the
men who have to leave work . as
well as lose their pay, when a fire
occur§."
He suggested that the four town-
ships surrounding Clinton pur-
chase their own equipment and
locate it in Clinton.
UNION
NtON, GODERICH TOWN-,
_ HIP, June 10. -Sunday was one
of the highlights in the yearly
program of Union Sunday school.
An interested and appreciative
congregation of visitors and par-
ents enjoyed the Flower Sunday
service. Special music was sup -
':plied by a children's choir, with
Mrs. John Meriam as pianist. Miss
Dawn Moffat, of Wingham, was
guest soloist. Misses Joyce Sower -
by and Marilyn Ore sang a duet.
An action song was contributed by
Mrs. Gerald Orr's nursery class.
Lloyd Hutton, superintendent of
Wingham United Church Sunday
School, brought a suitable message
for the occasion. The church was
appropriately decorated. --
Charles Orr, Meredith Wilson,
Arnold and Arthur Bell were on
the winningteam in the tug-of-
war which was an event in the
Junior Farmer's sports meet held
in Mitchell, Saturday.

THE VOICE OF BETHEL
REV. HOWARD E. MINAKER
WHAT SHALL WE BELIEVE
Christendom is full of _conflicting utterances and doctrines..
Mr. Greenfields elaborates on the beauties of nature and
a loving God who would never punish the Wicked. -
Mr. Doyourbest informs you confidently that if you try to
live a good life and do the best you'can, you will be alright.
Then -Mr. Fermat%ty deciares the needissity of passing
through, certain rites in order to reach heaven.
Of course Mr. Modernism must be considered who con-
cludes that a modernizing of the Old-time religion is most es-
sential:
Then there are many "fancy 'religions" and "isms" that
seem to spring up like mushrooms.
Above the din of contradictory pronouncements perplexed
people are asking "WHAT SHALL WE BELIEVE?"
We are- not len to flounder in the waters of human con-
jecture for GOD HAS SPOKEN.
Jesus speaks to learned, religious and self-righteous Nico-
demus these words.' "Except -a man be born again he CANNOT
SEE' the kingdom of God," John 3:3. A cleansing and trans-
formation must take place in the human heart before sinful
man can be acceptable in God's 'right.
When ode is born again he has a definite assurance in his
heart that he is born o God. " "He that bell veth on the Son
of God hath the WITNESS IN HIM." John 5:10.
God does not recognize any efforts we may make to save
ourselves. The purpose of His coming to earth is to save from
sin those who will come to Him for cleansing.
