Grand Bend. BRIEFS -That dreadful disease known as la grippe, is still raging in this vicinity. Although none of the inhabitants are seriously sick, still it took a pretty good grip of some of them. -Owing to the soft weather there is not enough ice on the lake for the fishermen to flrh with their gill nets. -Mr John Dalziel, formerly of this place, but now of Sarnia, paid our town a visit last week, -The Rev Mr Carrier will be unable to attend to hie duties next Sunday, owing to an attack of congestion of the lungs, after having the la grippe. Hope to see him around again soon. Parkhill. A TERRIBLE TRAGEDY. -On Wednesday of last week, amen named Robt. Blanchard of West Williams, came to Parkhill and got drunk. He visited the Franklin House, owned by 1). McColl & Co. and making himself offensive was ejeoted by Mr McColl. At the door there is a platform from which steps lead to the sidewalk, and from thie platform Blanchford was thrown, and his head striking the hub of a wagon which stood at the door, his skull was broken, thus allowing his braine to protrude. Blanchard was at once conveyed to Mr.,Tncher's resi- dence, wbere he died shortly afterwards. McColl has bean arrested and is at present in the county jail at London to await his trial on a charge of manslaughter, which will commence on Friday. A great deal of excitement prevails. At the inquest held at Parkhill on Mon. day, the jury returned the following veodiot: 1 I "We, your jury, find that the late Chas Blanobard died from injuries to the brain 1 caused by the kick of ahorse, against which he stumbled whale being put out of the Franklin House by Donald McColl, one , of the proprietors, on Monday, January 27th, and this jury exonerate the said Donald "cColl from blame, believing that he used no unnecessary force in ejecting him from his hotel." Mies Bisland, who tried to beat Nelly Bly in her journey around the world, arrived from Europe on Friday. The time of her journey was 77 days, 16 hours, 48 minutes Mies Bisland started from New York for San Francisco ten hours after Mise Bly had sailed for Europe.
