Wonwn's Institut* Concert. •—
The , Women's Institute presented
a high class program of local tal-
ent in the Foresters' Hall,'Thurs-
day evening. ,Mr. Harry , Sturdy
was chairman and Mrs. K," J. Phil-
lips was accompanist. � The high-
ight of the evening was a debate,
"Resolved that ladies 'are more
efficient car drivers than men."
The affirmative was upheld by Mrs.
Alf. Nesbit and Mrs, Archie Robin-
son while the negative was taken
hy Mr. Carl Mills and Mr. Arthur
Grange. Both sides brought out
good points. The judges were Mrs.
L. M. Scrimgeour, Miss Kenny and
Mr. Bert Gray, all of Blyth, who gave
their decision in favor of the af-
firmative, Other numbers on the
program included a trio by Misses
Lila, Ellen and Edna Deer; a num-
ber, "Alice Blue Gown" by the
girls of No. 9 school, Hullett; a
pantomime, "Basket of Old Fash-
ioned Roses" by little Janette
Dobie and Master Allan Craig with
Mrs. Emmerson Rodger as soloist;
"Hits from the Roaring Twenties,"
sung by Mrs. Gordon R, Taylor
and Miss Marion Taylor. The
president, Mrs. Wes. 1}radnock,
welcomed the audience and thank-
ed all who had helped in any way.
A number "Down Through the
Years" was presented by ten young
ladies; a valentine drill was given
by the girls who are taking the
course, "Cottons May be Smart."
a project sponsored ,'by the W.I.;
Miss Joan Mills favored with a
tap dance. A minstrel show pre-
sented by 12 ladies added much
to the evening's entertainment and
included solos by Mesdames Wil-
liam J. Craig, Gordon . R. Talyor
and William Haggitt; a mouthorgan
selection by Mrs. Everett Taylor;
duets by Mrs. W. T. Robison and
Mrs. Fred I'laetzer,, Mrs. Gordon
McPhee and Mrs. George Million,
Mrs. Gordon McClinchey and Miss
Sadie Carter, and a quartette num-
ber by Mrs. W. T. Robison, Mrs,
Fred Plaetzer, Mrs. W. J. Craig
and Mrs. George Million. A vote
Iof thanks was extended to the
program committee, Mrs. R. .1•
Phillips, Mrs. W. T. Robison, Mrs.
!Gordon McClinchey, Mrs. Wes.

son for their untiring efforts in

patient in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London, has returned home.

to Fergus on Saturdary owing to
the death of her sister who passed
!away suddenly that morning.

visited his father, Charles Beadle.
Orange Lodge Euchre. —. The
local Orange Lodge held .a euchre
party in their hall, Friday night,
when 14 tables were in play. The
winners Were: ladies' high, Mrs.
T. S. Johnston; ladies' low, Mrs.
Jack Armstrong; gent's high, Wil-
( liam J. Craig; gent's low, Jack
Armstrong. Lunch was served.
The World Day of Prayer will
be held in the Baptist Church on
Friday,, February 20, at' 2.30 p.m.
Miss Laura Collar of Wingham,
returned missionary from the Sou-
dan Interior . Mission, Africa will
be t5'e guest speaker. It Is hoped
that all the ladies of the commun-
ity will attend this service:
Knox W.M.S. — The February
meeting of the W.M.S. of Knox
United Church was held at the
home of Mrs. C. M. Straughan
with bars. Herb Mogridge in charge
and Mrs. W. J. Craig at the piano.
The theme of the meeting was
"The Sacrament of the Lord's Sup-
per." The progrard in the Mis-
sionary Monthly was followed. The
Scripture was read by Mrs. Archie
Robinson. The eighth chapter in
the study book "The Church of
Christ in Angola," was taken by
Mrs. Elliott Lapp. Mrs. ' Archie
Robinson contributed a reading.
The president, Mrs. Albert Camp-
bell, took charge for the business
period. The roll ea11 was an-
swered by a verse of Scripture.
The heralds responded: Mrs.
George Million on Temperance,
Mrs. John Durnin an China and
Mrs. Gordon McClinchey on Chris-
tian stewardship. Mrs. Roy Easom
was appointed to be in charge of
mite boxes and Mrs. Harold Web-
ster was appointed treasurer to
receive donations for the Unitled
Church Training School," Toronto.
Mrs. C. C. Washington offered the
closing prayer. The hostess served
refreshments,

A wedding of wide interest took
place in St. Columban Church,
East Sandwich, at 9.30 a.m., Sat-
urday, when the Rev. Father Cote
united in marriage, Marjorie Anne
Willis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
R. J. Willis,. Goderich, and Norbert
Joseph Wisser, son, of -Mr. and Mrs.
A. J. Wiser, Goderich. During
the ceremony the guest soloist
sang Schubert'* "Ave Maria" and
"On This Day, Oh Beautiful Mo-
ther." The bride chose a suit of
navy blue gabardine, with white
velvet hat and matching navy and
white accessories. Her corsage
was a mauve orchid. She was at-
tended by Miss Clara Leddy, Gode-
rich, wearing a suit of mauve
gabardine, with black accessories
and corsage of pink carnations.
The groom was attended by his
brother, Ronald of Goderich.
After the ceremony a dinner for
the bridal party was held at the
"Rendezvous" Windsor.
For a trip to Pensylvania and
Buffalo, the bride donned a coat
of powder blue, over her wedding
ensemble. On their return the
couple will" make their home in
East Sandwich.
GREENTREE—ALLEN
Sunnybrook Chapel, Toronto,
was the setting for an interesting
wedding on Saturday, January 30,
when Doris Elaine Allen, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Harold J. Allen,
East street,. Goderich, was united
in marriage to Norman James Al.
bert Greentree, R.C.A.F., Toronto,
eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert
Greentree, of McCreary, Manitoba,
Padre Surman, Squadron Leader of
Sunnybrook performed the cere-
mony.
The bride wore a light blue
taffeta faille gown, cocktail length,
with pearl and rhinestone braid
trim, matching hat, navy accessor-
ies and corsage of white roses.
The 'couple was attended by Mis
Ruth Greensides, of Toronto, and
Mr. James Neil Mowatt, of Bran-
don, R.C.A.F., Toronto.
Miss Greensides was gowned in
navy taffeta faille witti navy and
pale yellow accessories and corsage
of pink carnations.
Immediately following the cere-
mony, the couple were guests of
honor at the home ,of. the brides-
maid's father, Mr. George Green -
sides, Brunswick avenue.
After the reception Mr. and Mrs.
G"reentree left for a short honey-
moon trip to Stratford and Gode-
rich.
The • bride's parents entertained
in their honor at a reception on
Saturday evening. The couple will
reside in Toronto.

St. Peter's Roman Catholic
Church was beautifully decorated
with spring flowers on Saturday
morning, when Pauline Margaret
Crawford, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Fulford of • Goderich,
was united in marriage to John
Wilfred Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Wilfred Smith, R.R. 3, Goderich.
The ceremony was performed by
the Rev. J. P. Gleeson. The wed-
ding music was played by Mrs.
Bert Baechler and Miss Agnes Chis-
holm was soloist.
The bride, given in marriage by
her uncle, Mr. Kenneth Chisholm,

PORT ALBERT, Feb. 11. -- Mr.
Dave Martin has been under the
doctor's care for the past week.
Last Thursday he was in London
tosee a specialist. We hope he
will soon be tihowing an improve-
ment.
Mumps have invaded this dis-
trict. Many have had the cais-
fortune of taking them the last
few weeks.
Fred Crawford gave his hone
on Wednesdayevening . of last
week for a social evening for about
60 men of the district. The oc-
casion was In help himself and
John Smith to celebrate the last
few days, Of freedom before their
marriages. The eVening was spent
in the playing of cards. Later,
was attractive in a floor -length
gown of white nylon net with an
overskirt and jacket of white
chantilly lace. Her finger-tip veil
was caught to a shirred net cap,,
and she carried a white prayer
book, arranged with a inauve or-
chid and white streamers.
Miss . Mary Smith, the groom's
sister, as maid of honor, wore a
strapless pale green satin dress,
ankle -length, with an overskirt of
green lace and a matching cape.
She carried a bouquet of pink
carnations. Mr: Grant Chisholm,
R.R. 3, Goderich, was groomsman,
and Fred Crawford, the usher.
At a wedding . breakfast at the
home of the bride's parents, her
mother wore a green taffeta dress
with black accessories.
For a trip to the United States,
the bride wore a grey suit and
coat, and black accessories, with
mauve orchid corsage. The couple
will reside in Goderich.
