Nothing had since been heard of the Company until last week when one of its members, in a long article in a county paper, discloses some underhand work, which would Itad the public to believe that the prime object of many of its in- augurators is a desire for a fat office. A severe storm of sleet, on Saturday, covered the surface with about two inches of ice. Until the sun came out warmly, walking was rendered very dangerous, and several falls were a result. The small boy was jubilant as almost any place could be converted into a coasting and skating rink. Fainnere, too, who were anxious to take advantage of the "slipping," came to town with sleighs and cutters, but returned home through the mud. It is dangerous at this season to venture too far from home with either wheels or runners, as sudden changes are in order. A; dry geode merchant and a jeweler were going home together at the close of their day's labors, and the former drew from his vest his handsome watch, and proceeded to wind it up. For some months past the residentsof the second and third concessions of Us - borne, especially in the vicinity of John Dew's old farm, and persons having oc- casion to pees along that lineat a certain. hour, have had their curiosity strangely aroused by the appearance of a mysteri- ous light in the air a few feet above ground. One of the 'residents in citing his experience, says that, one evening about nine o'clock he was returning home from Exeter and going southward on the concession observed the light, which he states was about 30andl c e power, coming along the concession to- wards him. It being very bright he was somewhatstartied, and stood still that the light might approach him. . It came to within a few rods of the traveller, and suddenly turning westward made lightning progress across thefields bury- ing its brilliancy in Mr. Willis' bush. Upon certain evenings at nine o'clock this fetch -light has been seen by various persons, all of whom declare their sense of amazement on beholding it. ,Such lights generally portend death.
