'l'Ilis cemetery, situated on the
road between Iienmiller and Gode-
rich, was purchased in 1875. It
was. enlarged by the purchase of
ten acres! in 190(1, and sb'full time!
Sexton 4V:15 engaged by the '►Illllli-
eillality in 1912. The purchase
price of the burial lots 4'88 in-
creased and perpetual care is op-
tional with the Purchaser but is
being largely adopted., Since the
adoption of this plan a great iu►-
provernent in the appearance of the
cemetery has taken place and it
has now become !a beauty ,spot and
will likely remain so. An .annual
memorial service is held in July
and is largely attended.
Before the purchase 'of this
ground many -of the early settlers
were buried in other plots, such
as at Garbraid, where- I)r. Dunlops
tomb remains, and at V''arcoe's (411
the eighth concession, Which Y1as
also been cleared up by the muni-
cipality and some bodies removed.
There was also one at the Evangel-
ical Church on the first concession
where most of the bodies Were re-
moved. The Ionian Catholic burial
ground is on the same' road, on
land given to the church by l'•atrh'k
Carroll, who was . al#10 a promoter,
in establiAhing they municipal under-
taking.
