and 1927. He has also forwarder( to the Signal -Star a cheque

Forty-six, years ago,, I walked six miles to the nearest
telephone to apply for a 'position in Goderich. A few days
later I travelled fifteen miles by horse-drawn stage to board
the Buffia"lo ainl Ga'derielt ,train at Seaf'orth which carried Inc
to Huron's County Town The entice trip took over seven
hour --froth 7 o'clock in the morning to 2.30 in the afterni on.
Today it can be done by motor oar in less than an hour! Today
the entire countryside, with a telephone in almost every home,
knows nothing of the hardghips due to lack of quiek communic-
ation at the beginning of the century. '
As 1 look back to that day when
I because one of t;cxlertch's foster
sous, the marked progress of the
years between -converges into sharp
focus. But as I look forward to
visiting again next week the town
of my adoption, 1 remember also my
first impressions of, the place 1
called hoose for over two det.'ades.
In fact, I never think of Goderich
since I left it without my memory
