GODERIOH TOWNSHIP
Views of Bayfield.
and Clinton Fire
Brigades Heard
The regular meeting 41f the Gode-
rich Township Couticil washeld
iu Holmesville on March 3. 'Pwo
position of Warble FIS- Inspector.
The position was given to Charles
Wilson, the. fortner inspector. Only
one. tender WU'S received for spray-
ing liveStock.- that of Bruce, Vol -
land, Goderich, who was awarded
the. eontract. It was again Otn-
Outsized that those Who livished to
treat their cattle by. had -would
be allowed to do so, subject to
the approval of the inspector, while
those who wished to use he power
sprayer would be charged 13 cents
per head per spray, whkli amount
would be entered in the tax roll
and collected in the usual manner.
The committoe who had been em-
powered to interview' the Clinton
Fire Department, reported that the
Town of Clinton' was not anxious
to enter into any definite agreement
for the use of their equipment in
township tires, but that they would
go wherever needed or called, for
a. fee of $75. This viewpoint of
Clinton's was considered very 'fair,
as they collected the 'fee and re-
ported that only on very rare cases
-had the person calling refused to
pay. Their rat q of '$.75 was set so
as to discourage foolish ,calls for
such as grass or chimney and yet
when lire protection was wanted,
the sunt of $75 should never be
too high. The Clinton . chief ex-
plained that if an agreement were
,entered into .and the department
called to a lire in the township,
they wouldbe obligated to stay and
tight that lire even though they
should be called to a fire in Clinton
at the same time for rather. Called
to Clinton five minutes after'. This
set-up would be very unsatisfactory
to Clinton, which owns the equip-
ment. As the matter stands at pre-
sent, Clinton will answer .any call
in the township, for a fee of $75,
but if, they are .eallectf.tO Clinton,
they will be obliged to leave that
fire in the country -and answer calls
from the town. 'This co-operation
on the part 'of Clinton provides the
residents of the township near ('lin-
ton with help in case of fire, if and
when they, need it in a hurry. and
'provided they are willing 14) pay
for their calls.

of $200 and iu return they' will
answer any call ln the township,
without any further fee being re,
(mired from .the owner, unless he
wishes to give them a voluntary
donation. All that would be re-
quired to get this department would
be to call the Baydeld telephone
operator and tell her the particu-
lars, after. which she calls the mer
and sounds the alarm. This sersrice
has only one disi its that
-some-p s of the towtihip are so
far from Bayttield that if a tally
serlotis fire were eneouutered,
might' . be possible to haie fire-
fighting equipment there quicker
from some nearer station.
A delegation was. appointed to
call on the Goderich Fire Depart-
ment- to try and arrive at some
saitahle understanding with thew.
So far they have asked fora fiat
retaining fee of $100 per year and
$50 for each and every rare call
and, unlike Clinton, were net will-
ing to collect this $50 from the
Individual but asked the township
to be responsible for it also. The
committee Will report at the qiext
regular meeting. A number of ap-
plkutious were received froin rate-
payers for assistance under the Re-
foresting Bylaw. All were ac-
cepted.
The clerk- was instructed to con-
tact the Department of IligliWays,
asking that some action be taken
to improve the Curve in No. 8 High-
way, lit Taylor's Corner, And that
further consideration be given tti
blinker light in HolmesVille.
Tht follOwing accounts -were pre-
sented and ordered paid: Baytield
Fire Department, grant, $200.00;
C. D. Wise, telephone loan, $500,00;
Town of Goderieh, Division Court,

sulin, $0.88; direct relief, $40.00;
