A film, "The Bells.'of Christmas
of the Nativity", was the high-
light of last week's meeting of the
afternoon ,unit of the Wingham
United Church Women, held in
the Sunday School room. Mrs.
Barry Passmore was in charge of
the showing.
Miss Wilson was in charge of
the meeting and chose as the
theme "The Meaning of Christ-
mas". In talking of the festive
season, she said, "It is the season
for giving and receiving of gifts,
when God gave to man the great-
est gift of all time, Jesus Christ.
Let us enjoy giving and receiving
of material gifts as symbols of
love."
The singing of Christmas
carols was interspersed with
scripture reading by Mrs. O.
Lewis and prayer led by Mrs.
Haselgrove. Miss Wilson then
read the poem, "The Priceless
Gift of Christmas", in which she
said it is "a heavenly gift which
only God can give and it's ours
just for the asking for as long as
we shall live".
Her closing words were, "So
take His priceless gift of love,
reach out and you receive, and
the only payment that God asks is
just that you believe."
The offering was accepted by
Mrs. G. Johnston and Mrs. Patti-
son and Miss Wilson closed with
prayer. Mrs. Lockwood con-
ducted the business and the
minutes of the last meeting were
read by Mrs. Wray. A total of 130
rrisits were recorded by the mem-
bers.
The treasurer's report was
given by Mrs. Bone and the offer-
ing of the Least Coin was re-
ceived. Two sympathy cards
have been delivered to Mrs. Tay -
for and Miss Murray.
The meeting closed with a
hymn and lunch was served. A
vote of thanks was tendered Mrs.
Lockwood for two years' service
as leader. Mrs. Underwood is the
new leader of the unit.
