Guest speaker of
Baptist service
Dr. Denzil Haymore, i)ean of
Central Baptist Seminary,
Toronto, was the .guest speaker
when the congregation of the
Wingham Baptist Church held its
worship services on Sunday.
Dr. Ralymore's morning, ser-
mon was a commentary on the
first chapter of John's Gospel,
wherein the Word is described as
being "with God, and the Word
was God." He also spoke of John
the Baptist and his witness, that
all men through him might / be-
lieve.
During the service, Mrs. Henry
teqPas sang a solo. Mrs. Ray-
mond Neill and Mrs. Brian Mc-
Kague were at the organ and
piano.
At the evening service, Dr.
Raymore spoke on the Bible. He
referred to it as "the true Word of
God" and mentioned the Dead
Sea scrolls which supported the
authenticity of the Word. He used
as scripture reference the first
chapter of Joshua but also re-
ferred to the book of Proverbs
which contains so much wisdom.
Dr. Raymore said it is remark-
able that many people, even
many among his students, have
not read the complete Bible. He
said it can be read in one year, by
reading and meditating upon
three chapters each night, five
each Sunday.
Bruce MacLean conducted the
evening service.

'X' is Greek
for Christ
Why is "Christmas"
times written " K-mas'r?
"x" is the Greek letter symbol
that is used to represent the
name, "Christ."
This symbol has been dis-
corlered by many archaeological
expeditions on the walls of early -
Christian period catacombs.
Quite recently, a group of
scientists discovered the name of
Jesus, carved before • 70 A.D.,
among the inscriptions on eleven
early Christian urns.
These urns were uncovered in a
cave on the Bethlehem to Jerusa-
lem Road.
It is believed that these writ-
ings were left by a sect of
Hebrews who were followers of
Christ and who had denounced
Pontius Pilate.
