beet spoken a word. Hadn't
+Ove, given the eye to anyone.
But, according to the cop who
t+tdvd her into the paddy wagon,
she as inviting customers and
- advertising her wares by the pro-
vocative way she walked. And on
that testimony alone. the judge
tined her $150, because while
prostitution is legal in Denmark,
,eliciting is not. No advertising,
lest the oldest profession"
would be thereby cheapened.
Which, indidentally, is a view
als`ia shard by the medical pro-
fession,
Now this bit of news is very dis-
illusioning to those of us who have
Italy regarded Denmark as being
the most sexually liberated coun-
try in the world. It was after all,
the Danish government which
MIS the first to take the word
-pornography" out of its law
books simply because neither its
legislators nor its lawyers could
cone to any agreement as to
what the word really meant. And
ever since the Danish parliament
decided ft was time to stop p -
ing through bedroom keyholes,

It Wasn't Hugh Hefner and
," Who ushered in the
skin pictures s and the swingers'
clubs on our side of the water. It
really began with the Danes. How
come then that a Danish judge
mull be so narrow minded as to

Come to think. of it, seriously,
isn't a woman .advertising her
charms any time she dresses at-
tractively or pats on jewels or
cosmetics? What part of a wo-
man's finery isn't for the purpose
of attracting a man — or several

Any way you Look at it, when a
woman puts on her make-up, she
is only turning back her speed-
ometer. No wonder the Puritans
called the whole cosmetic busi-
ness a thing of the devil. It was
not only dishonesty but obvious-
ly designed to arouse a man's
carnal desires, and in the New
England of the 1690's any woman
who used paint and perfume to
lure a man into sin could be put in
the stocks on the village green.
Getting back to the sad case of
that Copenhagen coquette whose
swaying hips.were so provocative
they provoked a $150 fine, I do
hope that the case is appealed
and that she gets a good lawyer.
After all, appearances can be de-
ceiving in a man as well as a wo-
man, I once heard of a Presby-
terian minister — a man so godly
he probably would have offered
cup a prayerful 'Amen' to the sen-
tence handed down by that Dan-
ish judge I've been talking about
-- who was accused by a Baptist
spinster whom he had never met
before of trying to proposition
her, The truth was that whenever
he got sufficiently excited, the
whole right side of this poor fel-
low's face would give a sudden
and most peculiar twitch.
But when someone who knew
the minister finally convinced the
old girl that his wink wasn't a
proposition at all, it seems that
she was more indignant than
ever.
