Passed away suddenly, Dr.
Herbert Harold Hetherington of
Brampton, in his 72nd year. Born
September 21, 1904, in Bruce
•Couta'ty, Dr. Hetherington was° a
son ° of the late Christopher
Jletherington and Susan Thomp-
son. He was educated at Westford
Public School and the Wingham
High School. He lateienrolled in
the University of \Toronto,
Faculty of Medicine, graduating
in 1931. After internship `1t §t.
Michael's Hospital, he set fri
general practice in Bramptdn,,
He married Dorothy McArter •
in 1934 and she passed away in
December of 1965. •
From the early days of the
Ontario Chapter of the College of
Family Physicians of Canada,
Dr. Hetherington has been an
enthusiastic supporter. He
served for a number of years on
the executive of the chapter and
was president in 1965-66. In
recognition of his service, he was
among the' first group of general
practitioners in the nation to be
awarded fellowship in the College
of Family Physicians of Canada
in 1970 and in 1974 he was honored
with life membership in the
college.
He was past president of the
Peel County Medical Association
and had served the Ontario Medi-
cal Association as a dele-
gate to council jrnd as an active
participant oh various com-
mittees and in the Section on
General Practice.
He was a member of St. Paul's
Pnited Church, serving as a
member of the session. In 1970, he •
`headed the Rev. McDermaid
Fellowship Bursary which

Funeral service was held Tues-
day, October 14, from St. Paul's
Church and was conducted by
Rev. Williams, Rev. Johnston
and Rev. Jones.
Pallbearers were Harold
Hetherington, Bill Gallaher, Dr.
Don Willitts, David Fisher, Bill
Hetherington and Bill McArter.
Flower bearers were Cecil and
Bill. Hetherington.

James Smith passed away at
the Wingham and District Hos-
pital on Thursday; October 16. He
was 89 years of age.
He was the son of the late Alex-
ander Smith and Ann Cruick-
shanks of Tara.
In 1908, he married Etta Gib-
bons in Southampton. She passed
away in Wingham in 1955. An in-
fant daughter predeceased him,
as did two sisters and eight
brothers. •
In 1959, he married Katherine
(MacDougall) MacDonald who
survives. Also surviving are a
son, J. Edwin (Ted) Smith of 'Vil-
lowdale; a daughter, Edith, Mrs.
H. J. Fensham of Toronto; three
grandchildren, Linda (Mrs. Griff
Sneers), Katharine and James
Smith; and two great-grand-
children, I3obby and . Randilyn
Speers.
Mr. Smith assisted his brother,
Tom, in the operation of Central
Garage from 1925 to 1945. After
the business was disposed of in
1945. he was employed by Fry
and Blackhall of Wingham.
Mr. Smith had been a member
of the session in the Presbyterian
Churches in Southampton, Luck -
now and Winghatt. He was a
member of the IOOF Lodge in
Wingham and of Old Light Lodge
AF and AM, Lucknow.
A Masonic service was con-
ducted on Friday, October 17, by
the officers and members of Old
Light Lodge.
Funeral service was conducted
at the MacKenzie Funeral Home,
Lucknow, on Saturday, October
18, at 2 p.m. by Rev. Glenn Noble
of Lucknow Presbyterian
Church.
Burial was in Southampton
Cemetery.

Rev. Douglas MacDonald of
Port Elgin wasthe guest speaker
when St. Andrew's Presbyterian
Church celebrated its 113th anni-
versary at special Sunday ser-
vices. •
At the morning service, Mr.
MacDonald used as his scripture
the story of Philip and the eunuch
from the eighth chapter of Acts.
He spoke of Philip's witness to
Christ which led to the eunuch's
baptism. Applying the story to
today, he stressed the im-
portance of telling others the
Good -Newt -'of' th¢' <,
never" tieing afraid, fo ness to
our faith.
Mr. MacDonald's evening mes-
sage was based on scripture from
Deuteronomy and was entitled
`\Belief in a Powerful Personal
God".
Guest musicians at the morn-
ing service were members of the
Brussels Men's Chorus who sang
three numbers. The choir also
sang an anthem, At the evening
service, Mrs. Mary Lee sang "He
.Touched Me" and "It Took a
Miracle",

Joseph Lloyd Simmons passed
away in Wingham and District
Hospital on October 13, following
a lengthy illness. He was born
October, 12, 1894 in Howick
Township, the son of . the late
Charles Simmons and Elizabeth
Underwood.
Mr. Simmons went to Manitoba
in the early 1920's and moved
back to Ontario in 1942. He farm-
ed at RR 1 Wroxeter until 1970,
retiring to Gorrie.
He was a member of the United
Church.
On April 25, 1928, he married
Anna Cottam at Kelwood, Mani-
toba, who survives, also two sons,
• Lloyd of RR 1 Wroxeter and Roy
of Guelph; five daughters, Mrs.
Harold (Muriel) Crump of Kitch-
ener, Mrs. Gerald (Margaret)
Timm. Bluevale, Mrs. Robert
Thel m Peel of RR 1, Bluevale,
Mrs. D id (Shirley) Temple-
man, We esley, Mrs. James
(Lois) Freiburger. RR 3, Walker -
tor.: brothers Gordon of Wing -

Funeral service was held
Thursday at the Davidson Fun-
eral Home, Gorrie, at 2 p.m., con-
ducted by Rev. Wesley Ball of
Gorrie United Church. Pallbear-
ers were grandsons Bob and
Woody Simmons, Rodney and
Steve Crump, Greg Templeman
and Ricky Timm.
Flower bearers were Peggy
Simmons and Vicki Peel, grand-
daughters. Burial was in Gerrit
Cemetery.
