laide Hoodless started a new life
for women in 1897. The status of
women is studied by 140 nations.
Housewives and mothers should
be heard. Why not? The board-
rooms of Canada don't have
many women. Why not? Many
parents don't encourage their
daughters to be politicians, doe-.
tors, lawyers—Why not?
Women don't earn as much as
men graduates—Why not? Be-
cause they don't stand up and de-
mand their rights.

The motto, "What are Women's
Rights," was given by Mrs. Elgin
Johnston 'with this quotation:
The Rights of Women, pub-
lished in 1898, s ill carries a
message to all women.
The rights of women — What are
they?
T' o' right to labour and pray.
'I'' o' right to comfort in distress
The right when others curse to
bless.
The right to love when others
scorn.
The right to comfort all who
mourn.
The right to shed new joy on
earth.
The right to feel the soul's high
worth.
The right to lead a soul to God,
Along the path the Saviour trod.
Such are Women's Rights—and
God will bless and give support
oIfl great success. At ()lie time
women were the subject of
masculine jokes -- such as
"catch them young, treat them
1 o11►!' riled tell them nothing" or
"To make a wife behave keep her
without shoes in winter and preg-
;I-t in summer to prevent her
from gadding."
