A veteran of World War II, Cyril Canning of 337 Home Street, Stratford, died Friday, August 29, at the Stratford R.E.C.U. follow- ing a lengthy illness`. He was in his 62nd year. - Born in England, Mr. Canning was a son of Mrs. Ellen Canning and the late Frank Canning. He came to this country in 1923 and worked on several farms in the Wingham area during his early life. Since 1950, he worked for the Ministry of Corrections and at the time of his retirement, in Febru- ary of 1975, he was in charge of Camp Dufferin at Mansfield, Ontario. He served for six years in World War II. Mr. Canning was a member of St. John's Church; Stratford. ' Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife, the former Eileen Broomer, formerly of Wingham and Toronto; one son, Wayne A. of Malton, Ontario; two !Anthers, Reginald of Paris, Ontario, and George of England; and one sister, Mrs. -Marjorie Sayers -of England. He was predeceased by cow -sent; Silly; in 11949. 'The late Mr. Canning rested at the Heinbuck Funeral, Home, Stratford, where Rev: F. Faist conducted funeral service Mon- day, -September 1, at two o'clock. Interment followed in Roy's Cemetery, Hibbert Township: Pallbearers were Hamilton Leprich, Ellwood Acheson, Harvey Dow, Alex Robertson, Mason Robinson and Norman Coultes. Local resident's mother passes at Goderich Mrs. Robert John Acheson of 16 Elgin Ave. West, Goderich, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, September 2, following a lengthy illness. She was in her 91st year. Mrs. Acheson, the former Janie Elvira Caesar, was born in Toronto on April 27, 1885. She was the daughter of the late George Caesar and Eliza Smythe. Following her marriage to Mr. Acheson on April 21, 1909, in Toronto, the couple resided in Goderich. He predeceased her on March 29, 1956. Mrs. Acheson was a member of St, George's Anglican Church, Goderich. Surviving are one son, William G. C. Acheson of Toronto; two daughters, Mrs. (Dr.) Wilfred A. (Madeline) Crawford of Wing - ham and Mrs. J. S. (Mary) Henry of Islington. There are seven grandchildren and 13' great- grandchildren. Funeral service was conducted Thursday, September 4, at two o'clock at the Stiles Funeral Home, Goderich, by Canon G. G. Russell. Interment followed in Maitland Cemetery, Goderich. Pallbearers were Peter Henry, Michael Henry, John Acheson, Gordon Bowers, John Schaeffer and Fred Durst. Wingham II. group elects officers -The-"Rolling-Pins had there first meeting Monday at the home of Mrs. Art Clark.: The Wingham II group of the 4-H Club is made up of five girls, four of them newcomers to the 4-H. Elected at the meeting were: Lois Fex, president; Tracey MacDonald, vice-president. Mrs. Stucey discussed bread - making techniques and dough freezing methods, and with the help of the girls made freezer whole-wheat bread to be baked at the next meeting.
