Sangster, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food horticul- turist. Get out of that lawn chair, put on your gardening gloves, and cut .Y off all faded perennial blooms. This will not only make your bor- der look better, but will prevent seed setting. Remove all' withered and dried foliage, too. July and August are, ideal months for dividing iris plants, but you should wait until October before dividing your peonies, and until next spring to divide your late -flowering chrysanthemums and delphiniums. When all flowering has ended and most leaves have been killed by frost, you should cut your perennial plants off close to the ground and remove all weeds and debris from`' iii border.A Cetlair bouglJs'or oder iirusI hold th' snow well if they .are placed on the border after the ground freezes. After all this work you should be able to enjoy a continuous show of perennial flowers next summer. • • • • LYCEUM • • •• •• x • • • • • •r THACALT NIL E W ,AM NIAV' '• • • WED. 20, THURS. 21, FRI. 22, SAT. 29rd . • DAILY AT S:00 P.M. • ADULT • ENTERTAINMENT : • •••• ••• • • • • •• 4 • :04 .•. •f 'AW'A • ROGER MORE (IT •r• AH YORK : • GOLD • • ••••••••••••••••• •• • • •• SUN. 24, MON. 25. (Staff Photo) Save energy by rems• ulatmg The amount and distribution of insulation in heated buildings, in- cluding the farm home, should be checked this summer to give you an opportunity to purchase ad- ditional insulating materials or make arrangements for instal- lation while materials and con- tractors are available. In some cases, redistribution of insulating material, particularly in the at- tic, can be a worthwhile effort at a relatively low cost, according to agricultural engineers with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Specific timing is critical for buildings housing livestock and poultry sb that installation can be planned to avoid disruption of production schedules. . With the cost of all forms of heat energy increasing, it makes sense to invest in additional in- sulating materials. In most cases the cost of adding insulation will be recovered in one to five years. And, just as important, less fuel will be consumed. Fuel costs Can also be cut by reducing unnecessary air in- filatration and heat loss through windows. Seal unnecessary win- now dows with removable insulated panels or double glazing. Double glazing can be accomplished very economically by using clear polyethylene available from hardware or building supply cen- ters., Crackage around windows and doors can be sealed with caulking compound or weather stripping which are readily avail- able and easily installed. Heat losses through windows are high. Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food extension personnel, Ontario Hydro customer service staff, building contractors and material suppliers are all avail- able to offer assistance. Saving energy saves money affd leaves more energy avail- able for all of us next year.
