Summer show blossoms intocsuccess
for Wingham Horticultural Society
Greeted with good weather and
an excellent attendance the
Wingham Horticultural Society
co! L d another successful
t :now Saturday. The
sem. departed from the format
of the past few years and staged
entries on Friday evening ready
for judging at 9 a.m. Saturday.
This allowed the hall to be open
for viewing from 1 to 6 rather
than to a later hour on Saturday
evening.
The show was held in the lower
auditorium of the Masonic Hall,
and the judge was the Rev. J. W.
Siebert of Stratford. He was
assisted by Mrs. Gibbons, of the
London . Garden Club, who was
apprenticing on' her award as a
qualified judge
The number of entries was
down slightly from last year, as
was the number of exhibitors, but
the quality of the exhibits was up
to the usual high standard that
has been consistent of this area.
The officers and directors were
very pleased with the interest
evidenced by the townspeople
and those of the immediate
vicinity by their presence at the
show. They were pleased to wel-
come visitors from as far away
as Metropolitan Toronto and
Windsor.
A novel exhibit this year was a
passion flower in full bloom
brought in by Miss Annie Henry
and Arthur Wilson. A brisk busi-
ness in the sale of house plants
and other floral specimens should
result in a renewed interest in
this section, and the society hopes
to have more and better exhibits
in the next show. An embroidered
picture, made by Miss Merle
Wilson, was won as members'
draw by Mrs. Murray Stainton.
The directors are planning an
open meeting in the near future to
learn from the exhibitors and the
