Damage in the accident was esti.;
mated at $2,000.
Charles Foster of London and
Clarence Yuili of RR 5, Brussels'
were involved in a collision last
Wednesday on Highway 4, two
miles south of Highway 86. Esti-
mated damage was $250. That
same day Donald T. Cardiffof
RR 2, Brussels lost control of his
car while on Concession 7-8' of
Morris Township and struck a
tree. Damage was estimated at
$500.
An estimated $1,600 damage
was incurred Saturday in Brus-
sels when Douglas R. Somers of
RR 3, Blyth struck a hydro pole
while making a turn-off from Mill
Street onto Elizabeth Street. The
hydro pole and the transformer
were damaged in the accident.
All the incidents were investi-
gated by the Wingham detach-
ment of the Ontario Provincial
Police.
Permafrost is that part of the
earth's crust where the temper-
ature is constantly below
freezing. The term describes only
the thermal condition of the
ground, and not its composition
which may be bedrock, gravel,
sand, silt, clay or muskeg.

Mr. and Mrs. Ted McClenag-
han of Kitchener spent the week-
end with Miss Mildred Mc;
Clenaghan.
Mrs. Des Roches and boys
spent the weekend with friends in
Woodstock.
Mr. and Mrs. John Gibb of Kit-
chener were weekend visitors
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Dave Gibb.
Bev . Kay was released from
Wingham and District Hospital
on Tuesday but has had to return
each day for treatment.
Mr. and Mrs,. Bob Reid of Luck -
now and their visitors, Mr. and
Mrs. Moffat,of Fergus, were
Tuesday eveing visitors with
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson.
Dalton Schultz accompanied
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer King of
Brussels to St. Joseph's Hospital,
London, on Wednesday to visit
Mrs. Schultz. They found a slight
improvement in her condition.

Wednesday -evening. Wendy Kay

There will be YPS choir prac-
tice Thursday, July 17, at 8:30
p.m. at Langside.
Miss Joyce Tiffin of Toronto
and Barry Tiffin of Kitchener
spent the weekend with their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Tiffin,
and attended the reception of Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Snowden at the Hall
Friday evening.
The Falconer -McInnes picnic
was held Sunday afternoon, July
13, at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
John McInnes at 2 p.m. The af-
ternoon was spent renewing
acquaintances for the seniors
while the younger fry enjoyed
games and contests under the
supervision of Kathleen Forster
and Marian Simpson. There was
an attendance of 60. Michael
Tiffin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Doug-
las Tiffin, was the youngest
present. President for next year
is Joe Tiffin and Elnora Towle is
• secretary -treasurer. The meal
was served smorgasbord.
Miss, Lorie Heibein of Listowel
is holidaying with her friend,
Glenna Wilken.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Porteous of
Lucknow were Sunday visitors
with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emer-
son.
Mrs. Bill Willis returned home
on Saturday from Listowel hos-
pital and is now a patient at
Wingham hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schultz
and family and his father, Dalton,,
Schultz, visited with Mrs. Dalton
Schultz, a patient at St. Joseph's
Hospital, London, and again
found improvement in her condi-
tion. •
Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Schwich-
tenberg, Lori and Kerry of Port
Elgin spent the weekend with her
father, Albert Coultes, and on
Sunday visited with Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Coultes and family of Blyth.
Sunday guests of their parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Evans, were
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Evans, Linda,
Lisa and Larry of Erin, Mr. and
Mrs. tic Evans' of Hyde Park.
They had also been to Walkerton
to Brucella Haven and brought
her mother, Mrs. Bob Donaldson,
to the Donaldson picnic at Tees -
water Park.
Mr. and Mrs. Walmsley, Alicia
and Jason of Toronto were week-
end visitors with Mr. and Mrs.
John Jamieson and family.
Lori and Lee Fisher of Ayton
were weekend holiday visitors
with their cousins, Rhonda, Bill
and Gregory Gibson.

Struthers' 75th birthday. Owing
to the rain they had to go to

Memorial Hall. The community
offers congratulations.
Herb Laidlaw passed away
Monday at Pinecrest Nursing
Home, Lucknow. The community
extends its sympathy to his son
Ivan Laidlaw, Mrs. Laidlaw and
family, his daughter Mrs. Kerr,
Mr, Kerr and family of Bluevale
and sisters Misses Annie and
Mary Laidlaw.
The Gillespie -Martin picnic
was held on Sunday at Harbor
Park, Goderich where around 40
persons gathered to renew

Chalmers WMS will meet Wed-
nesday, July 23, at 2 p.m. at the
home of Mrs. Johnston Conn,
Wingham.Leaders are Mrs. John
de Boer and Mrs. Archie Purdort;
roll call to be answered by
naming a child of the Bible. Note
the meeting is being held one
week later than usual due to a
funeral in the community.
At the Martin -Gillespie picnic
at Harbor Park, Goderich, on
Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Don Bushel
were presented with a set of TV
tables to celebrate the occasion of
their 25th wedding anniversary.

at Belmore UC
BELMORE - Miss Joanne
Koeslag of Clifford was guest
speaker at the Belmore United
Church on Sunday, July 13. Miss
Koeslag is the presbytery repre r ,
sentative to Japan. The young y7
people of the congregation were
in charge of the service.
The service opened with the
hymn "They'll Know We Are
Christians" followed by the
scripture reading from Romans
12. The choir of young people
sang the song "Day by Day".
Gail Renwick then read the child-
ren's story "The Good Samari-
tan", which was acted out by
Linda Renwick and Steven
Johann. The next hymn was
"Jesus Is the Man". Miss
Koeslag gave her message on the
youth exchange to Japan as well
as the other countries, education
and leadership dvelopment and
care of children. The service then
dosed with the hymn "He's Got
the Whole World" and the choir
singing the song "Love".
