ASSEMBLIES
On Tuesday, June 24th the
Sports Awards were given out at
the assembly. On Wednesday,
June 25th another assembly was
held for. the Academic Awards.

GRADUATION
Grade eight graduation was
held on Wednesday, June 25th at
Howick- Central School, com-
mencing at 6:30 p.m. This annual
event entailed the presentation of
awards: the Jean Sperling award
of $15 for the top student; four
Lions Club awards -top two fe-
males and top two males. The
citizenship awards, academic
awards, and school letters,
achieved by an accumulation of
points; academically, athletical-
ly, through events concerning
music, and student aids (bus .pa-
trol, library assistant, projector
operator.)
Sandra Carson, students' coun-
cil president, presented the
graduating students with a vale-
dictory speech., The presentation
of graduation certificates was
featured.

On July 3 at 8 p.m., service will
be held in Bluevale United
Church for the induction of Rev.
Wilena Brown as minister of
Bluevale and Whitechurch
charges of the United Church.
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Johnston
were in Brantford on Friday
evening attending the Cardiff -
Pettit wedding. They were ac-
companied by Mrs. Laura Souch
and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Colley.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Peacock,
David of Winona visited with Mr.
and Mrs. W. J. Peacock at the
weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wilson of
Fort Frances called on Mr. and
Mrs. J. C. Johnston one day last
week.
Dr. and Mrs. Terry Johnston
visited at their parents' home
after returning from their honey-
moon trip spent in Nassau.
Mrs. Mabel Harris of Lambeth,

PLAY DAY
Play day was to held on un-
lucky Friday (June) the 13th, but,
due to poor conditions in weather,
it was held the following Monday.
The Kindergarten to Grade Three
classes participated in this an-
nual event. Such events included
sack races, leap frog races and
other enjoyable races. It was a
successful day for many young
pupil•

TWO -PITCH TOURNAMENT
On Thursday, June 19, seven
schools went to Turnberry to at-
tend a fun filled day of two -pitch.
On Wednesday evening it rained,
therefore Howick's (where it was
originally to be held) baseball
diamonds became too wet. The,'
seven schools that arrived at
Turnberry were as follows, How -
ick, Grey, East Wawanosh, Sac-
red Heart, Turnberry, Wingham,
and Brussels. The Howick girls
won two games and enjoyed play,
ijg the other four. The Howick
boys won four games, lost one,
and tied one. Everyone had a real
good,•time.

SPORTS ASSEMBLY
The "Sports Assembly" was
held June 23. The purpose of this
was to award top sports awards—
trophies and arm bars to remem-
ber. This assembly was put on by
Mr. Livermore,Miss Amos ad
the Sports Club. It was very
joyable. Our congratulations- o
out to all successful winners.

—The Beard of Managers was
in charge of the morning worship
service at St. Andrew's Presby-
terian Church. John Mann con-
ducted the service, Dr. H. Clug-
ston read the scripture lesson
from St. Luke's Gospel and pray-
ers were led by Mrs. Robert Ar-
buckle and Mrs. Harry Bateman.
The sermon, "Joy in Worship'',
was delivered by James Wilson
Mrs. Wallace Richardson, Mrs.
Murray Underwood and Mrs.
John Day sang two numbers.

farewell service
BLUEVALE—On Sunday, June
29, the congregation of Bluevale
United Church gathered for
Larry King's farewell service.
Mr. King, a student for the minis-
try, has served in Bluevale for
the last two years.
Members of the Presbyterian
Church and their minister, Mr.
Baswick, joined in the service.
After Mr. King's talk to the
children, Alan Campbell, Sunday
School Superintendent, presented
him with a plaque and expressed
on behalf of the children, their
love and thanks for his lively
interest.
The choir's anthem for the ser-
vice was "Back of the Clouds".,.
During his sermon Mr. King
spoke of his two years in Bluevale
as a rich learning experience and
thanked the congregation, for its
support.
After the church service,
everyone gathered in the Sunday
School room where Robert Fra-
ser, on behalf of the congre-
gation, expressed appreciation to
Mr. and Mrs. King for their work
in Bluevale, mentioning Mr.
King's challenging sermons and
his ministry in music and song.
He wished him continued success
in his studies.
Mrs. Audrey Johnston pre-
sented Mr. and Mrs. King With a
lovely scene done in oils, and Mi-
chael Fraser gave Michael King
a toy. Mr. King expressed their
thanks for the gifts in a few well-
chosen words.
Following the presentation a
lunch was served and a social
time spent with the Icing family
before their departure.
